My first S&M listen.
I have been tortured for real. It was no fun and not sexually arousing. I guess I just don't understand why others might feel it is. Perhaps because it is a fantasy. Well, obviously it was good to learn that what others may enjoy is not for me. I only hope that no one confuses their fantasy with the reality of the actual pain of human degradation.

1980s erotica
Perhaps it is that we have become to sensationalized by the erotica of 50 shades of gray and other works by the likes of Zane or 21st century erotica, but this is my second time reading this novel and it falls short. Essentially it is a lot of weeping, sobbing, tears, and various forms of paddling. Yet there is no other type of of sex play or BDSM. The narrator is lackluster also.I do not expect a plot although one those come about in this trilogy… It is no longer a trilogy after 2015 since she does add to it… But the thing that and rice does well is imagery and create beautiful characters. However, her characters are one dimensional and flat. They are too beautiful and are not complex they are powerful they are brooding or in their thoughts but essentially these are stock card characters that come from any Harlequin romance novel. It does not matter if this is a Rodica or the vampire novels or, now that I think of it, her werewolf novels. So if you are just starting out with and rice that is fine you can fall in love but once you come back to her novels for the second or third time after a few years you then realize that you have matured past and rice.description

I expected more
I must say, from Anne Rice I expected more. In spite of the introduction, I did not find this book titillating in the least. More than anything else it made me hate slavery even more. But I guess everyone has their fetish. Unfortunately I am a collector so I will most likely finish the series even though I don't like it.

Not a fairy tale
Not sure I’m sold on this story line. Different for sure I picked this up because of recommendation. I don’t know how to feel about it, it definitely pulls emotions out of you.
