Publisher's summary

Conner, a rogue wolf and murder detective, isn't looking for a lover when he moves to Haven City. He wants to solve crimes and keep to himself - unable to trust anyone since his pack betrayed him six years before. But Seth Alwen, his new partner, is different. He excites the wolf's animal instincts - waking up the passion Conner buried long ago. Seth's not only beautiful and alluring; he's also haunted by the death of his former partner. And despite his better judgment, Conner aches to relieve the man of his guilt.

Seth's a seer, but ever since his old partner died his powers have been on the fritz. Enter Conner Sharp, Seth's sexy and mysterious new partner. While the dark-haired stranger ignites Seth's desire, he also awakens the seer's power with every touch. Seth sees their future together - a future rich with lust and danger - but is it a future the enigmatic Conner wants?

As the two men solve a series of murders, their sizzling attraction overflows into the bedroom. Is the overwhelming passion just a fling or is it forever?

Contains graphic M/M sex scenes.

Narration tries too hard.

While the voice of the main character is great, the extras are a bit over to he top. The werewolf cop's voice would better suit a rendition of "Horton Hears a Who". It comes off oafish and dismal in this role.

Good

I absolutely love this story, I’m just not fond of the narration. I think Connor is supposed to just have a deep voice but the narrator makes him sound dumb.

Alright story...

The reviews for this book were not very promising, so I wasn't sure how bad this was going to be. The story was alright, almost good even. The writing style of the author was predictable but fairly good. The narration took a bit of time to adapt to, if for no other reason then the narrator was trying to hard to distinguish the characters, which is a valiant effort...All in all, not a bad listen.

narration issue

overall I liked the story and one of the 'voices' the narrator used but the other 'voice' annoyed me a lot. the 'voice' almost put me off the book, if the story weren't interesting enough to keep me listening I would have just shut it off,.

it was painful to listen to...

I read the book before and liked it but the narrator was AWFUL. I'm not sure what he was trying to accomplish with the voice he used for Connor but unless he was trying to make him sound stupid he failed.

Great story, okay narration

I loved the story! I love all of Zoe Perdita's books.
The narration was okay, it was well acted at some points but a bit stale and could be improved upon in others. It was nice that each character was given a distinct sounding voice, though.

interesting premise but

I found I was skipping forward often because the sex to plot ratio was way to high. I don't mind sex scenes when they add to the plot and/or character development but that was not the case here.
Connor, also, is unforgiving and not particularly likeable; we get much griping about how he can't trust Seth because Seth fails to disclose that they are going to interview hunters while keeping his own secrets. Hypocrisy, thy name is Connor.
As as romance I found this lacking. Seth and Connor didn't read as developing a romantic relationship but rather as F-buddies, not even friends with benefits. Your mileage may vary but I'm not likely to get the sequel.

Whew!

Any additional comments?

This story was hard to get through.

1. The narrator spoke extremely slow. Even with speeding up to x1.25, Conner's voice was horribly slow and it was like listening to nails scratch on a chalk board every time his POV came up.

2. Seth and Conner seemed more like 16 year old's that's never had sex before but desperate to have sex. There was too much time spent on then ogling each other and the sex scenes were drawn out entirely too long and happened too often which took away something special from the main MC's.

3. The MC's are suppose to be Detectives and when they manage to stop drooling over each other like teenagers, they actually act like grown men who are detectives but it doesn't last long which is a shame because the plot of the story is forged in a compelling mystery and suspense.

Josh Lanyon is a great author who knows how to balance his mm romance with a great mystery or thriller. I mention that because had the author did that with this story, it would easily be worth 5 stars.

Like I said if you get through the bad narration (and I'm not positive it's the narrators fault, I think it may be technical), the over abundance of sex, and detectives acting like horney teenagers, you get a truly compelling mystery with some great supporting characters.

Narration is so sad!!

The voice the narrator used for Connor was awful. It was like listening to Yogi Bear... which needless to say was ridiculous during sex scenes. Plus it was like he didn’t even understand or pay attention to what he was reading....ie multiple times the text says the character pretty much whispered what they said and he narrated it with a loud pitch. SO SAD!!
Which is unfortunate for the story since it had potential to be enjoyable. I will continue the series in Kindle as I liked the world the author was creating and I would like to see what happens with Seth and Connor.
