An audio book loving Aucklander.
"I gape at him"..."Oh Christian"...
"Oh my 50 shades" . Save me now. I grew so tired of hearing the same lines repeated over and over, so I gave up on it. Poorly written. Why is this so popular? Don't waste your precious credit on it.
More about the story of the two people rather than their very boring sex life. I feel stupid for buying it, really stupid. I loved hearing about Christian's lifestyle but that's about it.
Someone who doesn't say "oh my!" every third sentence in that revolting accent.
The first book I managed to read, this one I just couldn't bear.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
It has everything one wants in a book, it's exciting, funny and well yes lots of sex very erotic sex, but it is also a love story with all the twists of one. It will make you cry and laugh and want more, you fall in love with both characters and well it's only fair that I say that men like Christian Grey are only make believe in books. Don't miss this series!!
The story continues from where Ana has left her beloved Christian, these are two modern day lovers just one is Fifty Shades ........ ed. You want to follow their journey and see where it takes them, just wait till the final book Fifty Shades Freed, it's a ripper. All I will say is laters baby......
I found this really difficult to rate - it does get you in - but its the classic girls meets screwed up millionaire. The plot is weak and predictable - you think that there is going to be some drama some suspense but it fizzles out.
Focused way too much on having sex every five minutes - but with more in the story line even that could have been forgiven.
Its pretty much Mills and Boon on steroids. If you want an easy listen that wont keep you awake at night this is it. Oh and just a tiny bit of day dreaming about being with Mr Grey and his money lol
Christian asking Ana to marry him.
Nothing compares to this
Yes, what an amazing talent in her voice becoming all the different characters.
No, I listened to it on my journey to and from work over a couple of weeks.
This audiobook brought the characters to life.
It was most interesting to see how the author portrayed dom and sub relationships.
Some of the dialogue was a little boring.
Her voice sounded like someone who may be of Anna's age.
I did cry at some points and felt warm and fuzzy at others
Absolute bore. I've wasted a credit :( should've gotten Jodi Picoult's My Sister's Keeper instead! It's a torture from all those repetitive sentences and words. OH MY...
This was a great listen - better than reading the book. Fabulous narration and very enjoyable. Can't wait for freed. Brilliant
"Repetitive writing but strangely addictive"
Maybe it's the long commute that's made me stick with this story, but I'm going to have to see it through to the end now!
It's awfully written, like reading a teenagers diary and it's the same sentences over again "I gape at him/her" and if I have to listen to the sign off of an email one more time "Christian Grey, CEO, Grey enterprise holdings INC" I my have to pull off my own ears.
loved listening to all the books. brilliant story telling by becca . would read again
"Let yourself fall in love with the love story!"
After starting the first book 3 times before eventually watching the film, becoming obsessed and finally finishing it, I downloaded this one immediately after to find out what happened. They are not the best written books and are certainly unrealistic & contradictory in Ana's behavior and repetitive in narrative, however once I stopped concentrating on the negatives and just let myself become engrossed in the story I found myself really caring about Christian and Ana and wishing for them to work. Although it's been portrayed as a soft porn novel, and bombarded with claims that it demonstrates an abusive and controlling relationship. I actually don't think the sex is the main theme here, it's more about a young women awakening into sex, love, relationships and work. They both have emotional issues and find solutions in each other, ergo the books are a love story, just with more bondage sex than usual.
I loved both Christian and Ana. There wasn't really any character I disliked other than Jack who of course we are meant to hate. I did find the relationship between Kate and Elliot a bit cliche and to me it only served as a way to keep Kate in the novel. When Ethan then hits it off with Mia I found it even more annoying. 3 Girls and 3 boys all meet and fall for each other, 3 of them from one family and the other three from another but it in no way damages the relationship between Ana and Christian which is the only one I cared about. To me Ana and Christian are perfect for each other, both obviously head over heals in love but unable to admit it, even when they do they are both fraught with insecurities which eventually dull as they realize the others depth of feeling. The first 2 books only cover a matter of weeks and yet so much happens you finish thinking they have been together for ages. As they slowly heal each other I found myself caring more and more that Christian faces his demons and learns to relinquish control of Ana and trust her to be his partner rather than his property, and that Ana continues grow into a strong, independent women, getting her needs met from the relationship as well as Christians.
I did try reading the book and just couldn't get into it. Then when the hype didn't die down I thought i'd try listening to it instead and i'm glad i did. As this was my first Audible read it took me a while to get used to the voice and Becca's interpretation of the male voices but once I had I was hooked. I think Becca did a great job in the end of sounding realistic and providing a voice for Ana, however I did have to listen to it at 1.25 as the narrative was slow and draw out at normal speed. Once i had switched to a faster speed it was a lot better and easier to listen to. I think listening to this kind of genre is better than simply reading it because it helps make the fantasy more realistic. You can hear the inflections of Ana'a thoughts in her words and the internal monologue in her head comes to live. For me I needed to be able to just close my eyes and drift into their world, forget about the narrative and contradictions and just immerse myself in their story, once I did this, I couldn't stop listening. It is definitely a book that you shouldn't think too much about, the plot doesn't need to be examined as if you do it falls short. It's more about focusing on the idea of the couple and leaning how they heal each other.
A young women's awakening into live, love and sex.
Try to forget about the contradictions or the repetitive narrative because it will just serve to annoy you. Just let your self fall in love with the love story and it will obsess you!
"Not as bad as the critics say."
Although the reader sounds like a robot when talking sometimes, she portrays the charaters well. The story at times sounds strange and makes me a little uncomfortable, however it can be very intimate and I managed to get involved very easily.
"Read and listened :-)"
Perfectly read - thank you for keeping me captured! Listened whilst driving made my journey much more pleasant - thank you Becca Battoe
"Fifty Shades Darker ( Unabridged)"
Becca Battoe is excellent once again.
While this book is not for the bashful it brings a lifestyle choice that is usually hid out into the mainstream, It provides a window into the darker side of sex. And judging by the amount of women who have purchased this work of fiction it also frees people to dare to talk about the erotic and disturbing.
We all fall in love with the Broken Boy Christian Grey.
"lovely story and twists "
really enjoyed it and will miss it never boring all kinky stuff and and first loves
I have read the book, which is excellent.
Also enjoyed listening to it on audio. Brings it life, however would have preferred a male voice for Christian.
"that is a great story"
