Publisher's summary

Audie Award Winner, Erotica, 2014

Carrie's Story is regarded as one of the finest erotic novels ever written - smart, devastatingly sexy, and at times, shocking, Molly Weatherfield has penned a book that is standing the test of time alongside The Story of O and Justine.

Imagine The Story of O starring a Berkeley Ph.D. in comparative literature, who moonlights as a bike messenger, with a penchant for irony, self-analysis and as well as anal pleasures. Set in both San Francisco and the more chateau-friendly, Napa Valley, Weatherfield's deliciously decadent novel takes you on a sexually explicit journey into a netherworld of slave auctions, training regimes, enticing "ponies", (people) preening for dressage competitions. Desire runs rampant in this story of uncompromising mastery and irrevocable submission.

It Doesn't Get any Hotter than this!

Again, this one stays on the iPod. The narrator is perfect and I love the story. It's obscene, raunchy, hardcore and I loved every minute of it..all three listens.

Rarely explicit or sexual documentary-type tale

This book didn't work for me for two reasons. The first reason is that the book has very, very few incidents like the one showcased in the book excerpt sample. In fact, I don' think there is more than 2 additional moments like the excerpt. So do not buy this book based on that excerpt, which brings me to the second reason this book didn't work for me. That reason is that the book reads like a documentary or diary entry. It's almost entirely told with the h, Carrie, telling ABOUT her year of training as a sex slave and not SHOWING the listener. So there's little dialogue. And person-to-person engagement is not seen by us, the listener; we are not allowed to be spectators. Instead, we find out what happens second-hand by Carrie telling us about it and not showing it or allowing us to see most of what happens on our own. The very few sex acts occur in the same way. We're told that sex happens, not shown that it happens. So most sexual encounters--primarily anal sex or some type of anal play-or short and just stated as something that happened. As said before, there are only about two other actual encounters that we get to "see" happen, not including the one showcased in the book sample. So, it didn't work for me at all. But, if you like sort of introspective books and ones that tell about something more than shows the action, then this book is for you. It does that well.

Wow. Totally NOT what I was expecting....

Wow. I can't begin to tell you what a surprise Carrie's Story was for me. I've been pretty much "vanilla" my entire life and then like all the other women out there, Fifty Shades comes along and bam! I realize there's more to sex than just, well... vanilla. So begins my ride down the Erotica trail and what a great ride it's been. But, even Fifty is TAME in comparison to Carrie....however, I was totally pulled in from the first line and listened to this book in one day.

Carrie is unbelievably intelligent, having just finished graduate school and preparing to begin her masters program. She's a dedicated, hard-working, loyal woman with a solid head on her shoulders and doesn't take crap from anyone, yet she's warm. I liked her right from the start.

Johnathan is rich (aren't they all?), gorgeous (again? hello?) but a difference from Christian is that Johnathan is roughly fifteen years older than Carrie, almost a father-figure in a way I thought. He meets her at a party and almost immediately asks her to be "his slave" and we automatically think Carrie will say NO, but shockingly, she doesn't. She meets him at his home and the whole thing "begins" -- I was trying so hard to keep up with all that was going on visually and yet I still had to go back and rewind because I didn't want to miss a thing. It. Was. That. Good.

SPOILERS BELOW

Their relationship is completely and utterly SBDM, but we get these glimpses of loving acts between them when Johnathan allows Carrie to "be herself" but it is RARE. It's tough too, made me sad, and I wanted so much more for them, these two, in their way, controlling characters. I wanted the HEA but it wasn't to be found here. The story moves along with Carrie making a poor decision and Johnathan ends up selling her on the auction block -- but there's so much that happens in this seemingly short, six-hour book to put it in one review. It just wasn't what I was expecting and I loved every minute of it.

This was my first "real" BDSM book and well, I have to say, it won't be my last.

Very Hot

If you like BDSM erotica, this book and its sequel, "Safe Word", are for you. Although a little too much emphasis on "pony girls" for me, the rest of the books are well-written, with interesting characters and lots of steamy sex. Well worth the price.

A bit more techinical than relationships

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably not...I'm more interested in the books that push the boundaries within a relationship - not preparing an 'item' for sale.

Would you be willing to try another book from Molly Weatherfield? Why or why not?

Only to find out what happens to Carrie after this book ended

What three words best describe Shana Savage’s voice?

Confident, animated, believable

Did Carrie's Story inspire you to do anything?

No

Any additional comments?

This is TOTALLY BDSM to the highest degree-it is along the same line as The Marketplace. It is interesting if you are looking for an education into the 'lifestyle' but a too hardcore & clinical for this reader.

NOTE: Violence, sex & strong language

Molly Weatherfield Knows How to Play Every Stroke

"Carrie's Story" changed the Romance genre from R to X. It brought “Story of O” to romance, with open, thrilled arms. People who say, “Why is Story of O so bad?"–find their home here. Molly Weatherfield is the most brilliant psychologist and historian in erotic romance. She knows how to play every stroke.

Shana Savage just took the script and fulfilled it, beautifully. This is probably the most requested backlist title I ever produced, and I was thrilled we did it so perfectly.

One of the best BDSM books

Love the thoughtful writing combined with raunchy sex scenes. Definitely a classic in the genre. I listened to both books twice.

Confused

Good, solid but a classic of the genre? I’m missing something. I think I’ll read it again, more slowly. YMMV

Great story. Terrible dead pan narration

I struggled to keep with it because of the narration. I should have just gotten the hard copy.

Powerful, ambitious, wonderful - more please!

It's been a few days since I finished listening to Carrie's Story. I wanted to allow my feelings to settle, to make sure that this was as good a listen as I thought when I first experienced it. It will, of course, be compared to The Story of O and with good reason. Both of the narratives write from a female narrator's first person perspective and both are characterized by a more austere, spare prose than a typical romance novel.

Carrie is a much less frustrating (for me) narrator than O. She is self-aware, smart, courageous, sarcastic, and funny. She is a successful student but not so much so that it strains credulity. She has friends and resources. She makes the choice to explore her submissive nature not out of weakness but out of strength. She's really interesting, and easily holds our interest.

And did I mention that the sex and BDSM material is . . . OMG hot? It's far better than the Beauty series, far far better than the Marketplace stuff. It is the best I've seen / listened to since The Story of O. It's that good. Maybe better. Too soon to make that judgment.

It's worth the credit.
