Publisher's summary

"My name is different every month: Brandy, Honey, Amy. Sometimes Joe doesn't even bother to ask, but he never fails to arouse me with his body, his mouth, his touch, no matter what I'm called or where he picks me up. The sex is always amazing, always leaves me itching for more in those long weeks until I see him again.

"My real name is Sadie, and once a month over lunch Joe tells me about his latest conquest. But what Joe doesn't know is that, in my mind, I'm the star of every X-rated one-night stand he has revealed to me, or that I'm practically obsessed with our imaginary sex life. I know it's wrong. I know my husband wouldn't understand. But I can't stop. Not yet."

Critic reviews

"This is not a traditional romance but the story of a real and complex woman caught in a difficult situation with no easy answers. Well-developed secondary characters and a compelling plot add depth to this absorbing and enticing novel.? (Library Journal)

wow!

erotic and stunning. not just chic lit romance, but a great story with some great sex scenes. this was done in a very creative, unique way. not predictable but even if it was the journey to the end is WELL worth getting there. i read romance novels for the fantasy--the guy always says the right thing, the girl always ends up with the guy dispite physical or character drawbacks. i didn't expect to be aroused one minute and near tears another. this novel was real. a must read.

Megan Hart is Amazing

I have never read or listened to romance novels in the past, but when Audible had Hart's Tempted on sale for $4.95, I gave it try. At first I was shocked at the explicitly, but none of the romance was raunchy. I found I was enthralled by the story as much as the tantalizing details.

So, when it was time for a new download, I got Dirty by Hart because the reviews were better than Broken. I found that I liked Dirty better than Tempted. Of course I had to try Broken.

Broken will take you from flawless fantasy and desire to heart wrenching despair. I had read the reviews...I thought I knew what was coming, but still I wept.

What Hart does best is tell a story that feels like it could be happening to you or a friend. She clearly defines her characters and weaves the sex into the plot in a way that is hard to imagine. It just works! And amazingly she is able to re-create this realistic combination of sex and contemporary fiction book after book.

As others have said, if you don't want sexual detail this book is not for you. If you like a good story and some spice, then you will love it.

good read

I am almost finished with this book and I agree with the other review this book is explict but very well written, if you have a problem with strong sexual content don't buy it. I also liked the narrators voice she doesn't grate on your ears.

Let's be honest...

Because I have yet to read a review that says it, I’m just going to put this out there: I read romance to feel good. I read erotica to get turned on. And when this audiobook ended, I didn’t feel good and I definitely wasn’t turned on.

Although the story started out well-enough, the sex scenes became rather formulaic. M + F meet and decide to have sex. M touches F from the waist up. M and F touch one another from the waist down. M knows EXACTLY how to touch a woman (because, obviously, we’re all turned on by the same thing) and can bring them to multiple orgasms with his perfect, G-spot finding penis. (Can I use that word in a review? I guess we’ll find out…)

Those scenes alternate chapters with the main character, Sadie’s, first-person narrative describing her life with Adam, her quadriplegic husband. Trust me: this doesn’t make for uplifting listening. And yet, that part of the story was so beautifully real, eventually I found myself fast forwarding through the repetitive sex scenes (except for the second to last one with M + F/F/F which was hot!) just so I could find out what happens with Sadie and Adam. And then, rather abruptly, the story rushes to a conclusion. Although the conclusion was inevitable, given the sensitivity with which Sadie and Adam’s relationship was previously treated, I was surprised at how forced the ending felt.

Nonetheless, and mostly because there is a notable lack of well-written, well-narrated erotica on Audible, I can honestly say this book is better than average and I do not regret adding it to my Library. However, for those of you who are looking for the same things within this literary genre that I am, this audiobook doesn’t quite hit the mark.

MAIN STORY: 3.5 stars

Loved it!!

If you are looking for a lighthearted read this is not the book for you. This book deals with some very emotional situations/issues. It made me laugh and cry. Mostly cry. What would you do if the husband you love with all your soul is in an accident and becomes a quadriplegic? What would you do if the woman you love is an unreachable martyr? This book is very well-written and explicitly erotic. I loved it. I had only one problem with this audio and that was the shifting POV was a little confusing in the beginning, but I think that had more to do with it being an audio listen than the actual book itself. Megan will be a new favorite author for me if her other books prove this well thought out.
Beautifully realistic story.

A Must READ

After truly enjoying Megan Hart's "Dirty", I was not prepared for Sadie, the tragic injury that left her husband Adam paralyzed, Joe's monthly stories for Sadie and how Ms. Hart makes the listener's emotions mesh with each well-developed character. "Broken" touches so many deep emotions while enveloping you into the story. "Dirty" characters Dan & Elle are also woven into this story. No one but Megan Hart creates such vivid characters.
READ "Strangers" by Megan Hart next. You will meet up with Dan & Elle along with Jack from "Dirty" yet again. I want more!!! Can't wait for her next books.

missed the point

I had a hard time with this one. The main character falls madly in love with her husband, and then there is an accident. The whole of their relationship changes, so far I get it. What I did not get was the way she threw it out the window. Did she stay faithful, yes and no. She was not really easy to like and I think that is why I had a hard time with this book. She never talked of her husband to others and that seemed strange given her job. I felt all around that this book was missing something, love. I feel she didn't love, so I didn't care.

Mixed emotions

I found this book to be a roller coaster. One minute you were happy for the guy and the "girl" as they played out a fantasy. The next minute you're dealing with real life suffering, life in a wheel chair and an unhappy marriage. If you like to swing between romance and sadness, then you might like this book. Personally, I found the book to be joy followed by kill-joy, followed by joy, followed by kill-joy. The overall tone of the story was sad, which is not my emotion of choice.

Shoot me now

I found this book horrifically depressing. I think Megan Hart has excellent intentions. Why not take the fantasy out of Romance and tell the truth as best you can about one night stands and forbidden attractions. I'm sure there should be a deconstruction of fairy tale romance and that the warts of the 'handsome prince' should be laid bare for the world to see. I know this is the right thing to do but it made me seriously ill to listen to it. After the 5th hour, I couldn't in fact and had to skip to the end. Romance without fantasy equals horror story for me. The landscape is very very bleak.

erotica and a story line

I enjoyed this book. Erotica with a real story line (how unusual). You actually cared about the characters. After listening to this book I downloaded all her others.
