Boy Midflight | [Charlie David]

Boy Midflight

At 19, Ashley seemed to have everything: looks, talent, and even a girlfriend. What more could a young man want? But soon he has to come to terms with his sexuality and the possible implications for his career in the public eye as a male model. He begins dating Chris, but isn't sure he's head over heels in love. It's not the knight-in-shining-armor feeling he thought it would be. Then Ashley gets the chance to leave his hometown in Canada to visit sunny California for a big modeling job.

Publisher's Summary

At 19, Ashley seemed to have everything: looks, talent, and even a girlfriend. What more could a young man want? But soon he has to come to terms with his sexuality and the possible implications for his career in the public eye as a male model. He begins dating Chris, but isn't sure he's head over heels in love. It's not the knight-in-shining-armor feeling he thought it would be.

Then Ashley gets the chance to leave his hometown in Canada to visit sunny California for a big modeling job. There he meets a kind, slightly older man who takes his breath away. But is Ashley ready for real love or it is just infatuation? Will he go back to his comfortable life with Chris or explore this new-found attraction?

Boy Midflight is an intimate portrait of young love - a time when life seems simultaneously limitless and daunting. This is a sinfully delicious story, like stealing your best friend's journal and slowly unraveling a secret life you never imagined.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No really! The Canadian setting is lovely but the rest is not enough to recommend the book

What was most disappointing about Charlie David’s story?

Felt like author was adding unnecessary twists to fill in the number of pages required.
As well, although the author may not have intended to show any bias, but to have him point out that one character was of native decent and have that person be the one truly unlikable character in the book, just does not sit well with me at all!

What three words best describe Charlie David’s voice?

light and funny in the beginning - towards the end of the book, most of the voices sounded the same.

    "Great Story"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I think the story was well written and as always Charlie David does a great job of delivering on the narrators side too.

What other book might you compare Boy Midflight to and why?

Simple Men by Eric Arvin which also happens to be narrated by Charlie David. In both books it's about coming out where Boy Midflight is based around a character that is 18 Simple Men the character is older.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Ashley confronts Chris towards the end and how Michail lets him go to do that.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I could feel Ashley's frustration in finding love (even though he is only 18). Most of us are hoping to find THE One. I also caught myself laughing out loud with all the self dialog Ashley has with himself. When things are new we all seem to have these same thoughts running through our minds. I'd hear Ashley say something to himself and think, wow, okay I've said that to myself and just start laughing. Charlie also has a way with narration as well. The audio book makes it feel like Ashley is talking directly to you (like he was a friend that was sitting on your couch). Conversations go adrift sometimes and he has to pull himself back to the original thought, just like our everyday conversations. I really loved this book!
