Brant: Became a tech billionaire by his twentieth birthday. Has been in a relationship with me for three years. Has proposed four times. Been rejected four times.
Lee: Cuts grass when he's not banging housewives. Good with his hands, his mouth, and his body. Has been pursued relentlessly by me for almost two years, whether he knows it or not. Go ahead. Judge me. You have no idea what my love entails.
If you think you've heard this story before, trust me - you haven't.

What did I love best about Black Lies? IT KEPT ME GUESSING THE WHOLE WAY. At one point, I had a crazy thought, but Allessandra Torre's writing is *so good* with layers of STORY and misdirection that I thought, "Nope, that can't be it". It turned out, my guess was right BUT SHE WROTE IT SO MUCH BETTER THAN I COULD HAVE IMAGINED! There were parts that horrified me, kept me on the edge of my seat, and there were characters I wanted to distance myself from so badly I almost quit the book --- AND THEN --- what you are listening to isn't what you thought it was at all. The twists were awesome. And she wrapped it up so darn nice. That is a big problem for me with some books; the story is great, but if the ending is abrupt I feel like I've been having the ride of my life only to be thrown out of the car before I reach my destination. Really glad that wasn't an issue with this story. I love steamy romance along with Happily Ever Afters and this one delivers that too, yay! I had so much fun with this story, I bought the ebook too and had to go back and read parts going, "Yep, there's a clue, and there's a clue..." NICE!!
I don't think I can recall a book quite like Black Lies. It has many elements of suspense but I've yet to find another author who can write erotic romance + HEA (where one of the characters isn't tragically killed off by the bad guy -- authors, you know who you are! ;) plus really nice suspense. And a truly original storyline. The more I think on this book, the more I am impressed.
She was really good at differentiating voices. Her male voice for Brandt was my favorite. I wish she could have done the book all in that voice. At first, I was thrown off by her odd pacing in Layana's voice, where there were pauses where there shouldn't be and sort of strange emphasis' on some words where it wasn't called for but a few chapters in and I was accustomed. She read fast (I prefer narrators who speak as rapidly as I'd normally be able to read) which I loved very much, and she read clearly, didn't screech or scream (there is one narrator in particular that I fear did my ears permanent damage before I could rip out my earbuds - when the scenes call for a character to scream *it really isn't necessary to DO it, please have mercy on us listeners* Jessica Almasy could go from whisper to "shout" without any pain on the listener end - and her different male character voices were darn impressive
YES! But I played it while I was working and stretched it out into two sessions. But I wish I could have stayed up and skipped sleep. It was that good.
I wish there were more books to combine romantic erotica with real plot -- this was stellar for me because normally I get my book fixes in patterns: pick up a thriller, pick up a couple sweet romance, pick up a couple erotica books --- and none of these do much for crossover, until this book. I REALLY LIKED THAT! I want to go, "Aww! Sweet!" in the same book that I want to shout, "She DIDN'T!!!! That WITCH!" and "Get him out of there, HURRY!! Before they stab him again!"Hats off author! This was great!!
Another fabulous , intriguing story by Alessandra!!! She never fails to deliver a WHAAAAT??? I did't see that coming moment. Loved the weaving of Brandt and Lana's story. So different and quirky!
I went into this story with no expectations or a single clue what it was about. My mind was everywhere with this story. I was confused and intrigued. Great story.
The tale of Brant Sharp and Layana Fairmont is daring, tantalizing, and brilliant. It will take you on a ride with twists and turns you won't ever expect.
Torre has an incredible talent at weaving a tale with intricate detail, incredible dialog, and a love story of the century. She dares the reader to experience a world and circumstances outside the lines of our imagination. She makes us fall in love with Brant and Layana - their story, their love, and hope for their future - and then we meet Lee...
“I will fight for this love. Lie for it. Steal for it. It is worthy of that… I love her completely. She returns the love wildly. This love is worth the unsaid truths. The hidden lies.”
Hold on to your seats because you're in for a wild ride. I was addicted from the beginning, turning the pages voraciously to travel the journey with them and find out how their story ends. I guarantee this is one of those books you'll finish and immediately want to re-read again. Enjoy!
I also loved the narrator who did an excellent job at bringing the story to life.
I loved the sexiness and humour of Hollywood Dirt by the same author and had quite high expectations for this book. Unfortunately I found myself a little disappointed. There is a twist in this book which is very interesting and unexpected. However it seemed to take a long time to get there and I found myself disinterested along the way. The female lead character is portrayed as spoilt and shallow and I found it difficult to relate to her. Whilst this is somewhat resolved in the ending, I was still left thinking she was quite selfish and I didn't find that endearing. The male characters are more enjoyable, but the structure of the plot meant I didn't feel I got to know them as much as I might like to. Overall I didn't find myself caring much about the relationship of the characters and that left me a bit flat. Unfortunately I didn't really enjoy the narrator either as she came across as clipped and not warm. However I have read very positive reviews for this book, so it may suit readers who enjoy a more layered and slowly developing storyline.
I literally spent most of the book hating Lana for her treatment of Brant and allowing the way Lee treated her. When I found out why, it shocked me. This story is in a class all its own. I would have never guessed. And the narrator was amazing. At first I was convinced that Lana was demented. She did an amazing job switching between characters.
I wanted to read the reviews about what other people thought about this horrific narrator and was surprised to find very little about her. I couldn't get through the first minute of the book! One of the worst I've heard. Seriously.
However, I did READ this last year and absolutely loved it!
For those of you who have not listened to or read this book, please do not let what Denise wrote in February of this year sway you. She obviously did NOT FINISH THE BOOK!!! She acts like she did, but I can tell she only got about half way through the book and was apparently turned off by what she THOUGHT was going on.
The hero is NOT a homosexual and the heroine did not have an affair with one of his. Denise would have figured this out if she had FINISHED THE BOOK !!!! I am disgusted by her review. NOT COOL!!
I absolutely loved this story as well as the narrator. I can't stress enough how much I would recommend this audiobook!!!!
Heartbreaking, Surreal, Gripping..
When Layana went to rescue Brant from his aunt's house. That was spunky, brave and shows just the type of woman our heroine is. She was ready to do everything for her love, in fact she did everything and gave him so much.
The first time Layana met Lee. **Gasp** That was something.
The narrator is an over actor. Her over acting ruined this! This was my favorite book 2 years ago and after this, i can't reread it. All I hear is her voice! 5 stars for the book! 1 star for the narrator!
Good narration , sometimes the narrator dragged the words out a little too much.
Great story , keeps you thinking for days .
"Loved this book"
I love unpredictable books and this book just proved that. This book is amazing and I recommend it for all romance lovers.
