In this live recording of the Joseph Jefferson Award-winning play Still Waters, from L.A. Theatre Works, a woman in small-town Michigan takes on the role of a preacher during World War II, only to discover her ministry challenged when the war draws to a close and the men return home. A dynamic performance from Tony award-winning actress Deanna Dunagan makes Myrtle's struggle relatable, while the supporting cast including Joe D. Lauck, Nancy Ollar, and Mary Mulligan all bring energy, humor, and compassion to this thought-provoking play.
When there is a shortage of men during World War II in a rural Michigan town, Myrtle decides to become a preacher. She ministers to her community with wit, wisdom, a practical approach, and insights far ahead of her time. But when the war ends, Myrtle must look to her close-knit family for support, as she battles small-town preconceptions that stand in the way of her continuing ministry.
