Troubling and suspenseful, Ruby McCollum is more than a sensational true story about the murder of a white doctor by his lover, an affluent African-American woman. Based on the investigative journalism of Zora Neale Hurston and William Bradford Huie, this play explodes assumptions about class, race, and justice. As William, James Morrison is the backbone of the play, his solid performance providing a backdrop for Loretta Devine's unflinching portrayal of Ruby. As Ruby, Devine will put listeners through a gamut of emotions, from sympathy to exasperation, remaining completely human and convincing throughout.
