Publisher's summary

You don't become a hero for the money. The money's nice, sure, but you become a hero because something inside compels you, drives you to it. Defending people from monsters simply doesn't pay well enough to make it a good career move.As for hunting dragons... well, the money is usually good, but the job really bites.A group of five professional heroes goes into the lair of the dragon. Who will win?Spoiler: The dragon. But it turns out killing a hero sometimes does nothing more than make him even more determined.Sometimes, heroes are never more dangerous than when they're dead!

A good story.

it's a good standalone story, or as the side quest for another of Mr. Whited's novels. It's both intelligent and witty. the virtual voice narration is pretty good as well, it's not perfect, but it is far better than any previous text to speech I have listened to. I spend 12 hours a day at work listening to audiobooks and I would love it to expand to the other side novels that are skipped by main narrators. If this could be done with all kindle unlimited books, I'd never turn on a TV except to play video games.

Narration is lackluster at best. Good storyline

There is no emotion in narration, no change in voice between characters making it harder to follow. The story is good and I like garons work but AI narration diminishes the quality and detracts from the work whereas a good voice actor compounds on the work of an author.

AI reading

Although the story was entertaining, I did not like the AI narration. It doesn’t provide the correct inflection or change in characters.

a good book with monotonous audio

disliked the ai reading, liked everything else. it did suffer a little of every character having the same wit.
