Publisher's summary

A Recorded Books Audio Original production of songs and stories performed by Dolly herself, Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics goes beyond the glitz, glamour, and rhinestones to the warmth, heart, and soul of a treasured pop-culture icon.

In this exclusive audio performance, the 10-time Grammy Award-winning artist weaves her words with music and memories to give listeners the stories behind the stories of her most cherished songs. And with some 3,000 songs to her credit, Dolly uses her gift for lyrics to connect to people of all genders, generations, and geographies.

Showcasing nearly 100 of her most popular songs, including “Jolene”, “I Will Always Love You”, “9 to 5”, and “Coat of Many Colors”, to name a few, this one-of-a-kind audio experience delivers answers to fans’ most burning questions: How close did Dolly come to singing “I Will Always Love You” as a duet with Elvis? How did she become an actress? And exactly who was Jolene?

Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics is a must-have memoir for fans of country music, music history, and (of course!) Dolly herself.

Editor's Pick

A treasure trove of songs and stories
November is turning out to be quite the musical month here at Audible. So while I typically go for fiction finds when choosing my picks, I just had to jump on the bandwagon (get it, “band” wagon?) and join in on the fun. How lucky are we to have a new memoir—filled with personal stories, life wisdom, and, yes, musical interludes—from the American treasure that is Dolly Parton!? She frames her story through her songs—taking the listener on a real musical journey. Dolly is timeless. Her authenticity and talent shine through, and she reminds me of all that is good in this world. —Tricia F., Audible Editor

Love Dolly

I love Dolly Parton, she is so down to earth and funny. This one is more like a conversation or interview, I couldn’t stop listening.

Enjoyable

I was not a huge Dolly fan before this book but now I am. What a wise and talented woman. I enjoyed the audio book, hearing her tell her stories in her own words. Don’t miss out on this great story about her songs and her life.

INTIMATE AND INTRIGUING

This is as in-depth as I feel Dolly's ever been. I simply loved it all. It shows listeners how and why Dolly wrote many of her songs. I've always found Dolly to be personable and undeniably real. She doesn't disappoint here.

I’m asked for Dolly lovers

Great anecdotes, more of an interview. There is a lot of repetition of information and I would have enjoyed more deep analysis of her upbringing and affects this had on her today. With that said, listening to the story was great.

Fun to Hear

It was fun to hear Dolly explain things in her own words and to get a feel for her personality and sense of humor. it was a pleasure from beginning to the end. Funny that every single song was her "best ever" or "most favorite of alnol" and so on!

Could have been better

It had so much good content. Dolly is so fun. But it would have been nice to hear her sing some of the songs she was referring to, just pieces to kind of carry the story through
