Publisher's summary

David Troughton reads four original stories set in different periods of the Siege of Trenzalore, featuring the Eleventh Doctor as played by Matt Smith.

  • "Let it Snow" by Justin Richards
  • "An Apple a Day" by George Mann
  • "Strangers in the Outland" by Paul Finch
  • "The Dreaming" by Mark Morris.

As it had been foretold, the armies of the Universe gathered at Trenzalore. Only one thing stood between the planet and destruction: the Doctor. For 900 years he defended the planet and the tiny town of Christmas against the forces that would destroy it.

Some of what happened during those terrible years is well documented. But most of it has remained shrouded in mystery and darkness. Until now. This is a glimpse of just some of the terrors the people faced, the monstrous threats the Doctor defeated. These are the tales of the monsters who found themselves afraid--and of the one man who was not.

David Troughton, who has appeared several times in Doctor Who, reads these four original stories.

It's all about battles

Has Doctor Who: Tales of Trenzalore turned you off from other books in this genre?

I'll still read other Doctor Who books, but I'll be more careful of the type of story I choose.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

All battles, all the time. Fighting, battling, out-witting the enemy. No companions. Very little human interaction, very little amusing or clever banter.

Any additional comments?

I'm not a fan of this book. I should have thought about it more before I bought it, it's during a time when the Doctor has no companion so it's ALL battle all the time. My favorite parts of the Doctor Who series are the story interactions between him and the friends he brings along on his adventures. But this story is about 4 battles he had on Trenzalore before he became the 13th doctor. If you like stories about fighting then by all means, buy this book. For me, not so much.

Awesome!

Loved the stories and the performance. I would love to hear more stories from the Doctor's hundreds of years in Trenzalore.

As good as jelly babies

It was so many Doctor Who bucks but this might just be the Best of all.

Great stories

I enjoyed listening to David Troughton (who himself and his father has played in the old series) narrate the 4 different adventures of the Doctor on Christmas.
It always impresses me how well different authors can grasp the essence of The Doctor so well. I suppose its testament to how powerful the Doctor Who story is.

Now this is more like it!

1. Let It Snow
Pretty alright, twist at the end is a bit predictable, all in all it’s ok. 7/10
2. An apple a day.
Creepy little story that should have gone belly up with the Godzilla like monster at the end, but actually even that part is pretty intense. 8/10
3. Strangers in the Outland
Boring, but the Doctor’s parts are fine, though he seems to grump a lot here. 4/10 not bad
4. The Dreaming
Love it. Best story. This alone is worth the purchase. 9/10
Definitely get this you will not be sorry.

Entertaining Story, Fabulous Narration.

As a fan of both old and new Doctor Who, Tales of Trenzalore appeals greatly to fans of both genres. An 11th Doctor story, with classic Who monsters (Ice Warriors, the Krynoid, etc...), narrated by David Troughton who makes the Doctor sound charmingly like his second incarnation in many places, these stories were a treat to listen to. Also, I think more backstory to Trenzalore was a great idea. You can only convey so much in a few TV episodes, and these stories added more dimension to the story of the Doctor's stay of hundreds of years on this planet.
