Publisher's summary

For fans of The Crown and Ninety-Nine Glimpses of Princess Margaret, a deliciously entertaining collection of 101 fascinating and funny anecdotes about Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother—one for each year of her life.

During her lifetime, the Queen Mother was as famous for her clever quips, pointed observations, and dry-as-a-martini delivery style as she was for being a beloved royal. Now, Do Let’s Have Another Drink recounts 101 (one for each year of her remarkable life) amusing and astonishing vignettes from across her long life, including her coming of age during World War I, the abdication of her brother-in-law and her unexpected ascendance to the throne, and her half century of widowhood as her daughter reigned over the United Kingdom. Featuring new revelations and colorful anecdotes about the woman Cecil Beaton, the high society photographer, once summarized as “a marshmallow made on a welding machine,” Do Let’s Have Another Drink is a delightful celebration of one of the most consistently popular members of the royal family.

Love this book — format is great. Narration is great.

I’m familiar with Gareth Russell’s work on the Tudors through the Tudor Society. Was thrilled to see he was doing work on a subject in the 20th/21st century. Love the anecdotes and some were new to me. Cheer’s on this great work!

Great Read

Another great work by Gareth Russell.

Didn't expect as many historical references. Loved the format of a series of short vignettes.

Thank you!

The Grandest of Grand Dames

Beautifully read by Fiona Hampton, this fascinating memoir illustrates why the Queen Mother was a true power behind the thrones of George VI, Elizabeth II, and, with her indomitable spirit, Charles III. Very enjoyable👍

Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon

I really enjoyed this book, primarily because I knew little about the Queen Mother and subsequently learned a great deal. It doesn’t read like your typical lit book, rather it is factual excerpts of her life, which I found entertaining and engaging. It touches on everything Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, her upbringing, ancestry, marriage, mannerisms, outlooks, familial relationships and her life and role as Queen Elizabeth II mother. Loved it.
