Resumen del Editor

Sometimes it seems we just can't get what we want. Circumstances thwart our best-laid plans. We struggle to live a heartfelt life. Worst of all, says Eldredge, the modern church mistakenly teaches its people to kill desire (calling it sin) and replace it with duty or obligation (calling it sanctification). As a result, at best, Christians tend to live safe, boring lives of resignation. At worst, their desire eventually breaks out in destructive ways such as substance abuse, affairs, and pornography addictions. In The Journey of Desire, Eldredge invites readers to rediscover God-given desire and to search again for the life they once dreamed of.

if you are ready for this book in your journey

to sanctification it is the missing piece the the christian culture has so unbiblically faught against.

Desire

Never have I seen a script that more perfectly captures the human condition--our yearning for Hope and the absolutely essential nature of the desires placed in our hearts by God. Anyone who has been discouraged or disenchanted with the current dead state of affairs within our church or within ourselves will glean richly from this text.

Great book about heaven and your heart

This was another great Eldredge book. He takes a very intriguing approach to the description of heaven in terms of God making all things new not all new things. Drastically different view than the world view and very refreshing.

So rich

To experience the peace and inspiration God intended for us as we begin to truly understand with our spirit, our heart and our mind the role of desire in our life is nothing short of magnificent.

A Book For Such A Time As This

I was so reluctant to read this for whatever reason; perhaps because I had two books I was in the midst of reading. I was also in a strange place spiritually, and I felt I needed to hear from God. Still, He seemed to be silent. But a gnawing in my soul kept sending me back to this book. Finally one evening I began; I suppose it is true what I have always known- God prepares the answers to our life's deepest questions long before we ever arrive on the scene of their contemplation; if only we pay attention. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants a relatable, contemporary perspective on the age of afflictions of the heart, and ongoing battle between the desires of our hearts and our longings for this holy God. It is written without intellectual pomp, yet told with the passion and fire of a man whose heart has clearly been touched by the divine heart. It's the Christian book for the Christian who feels out of touch with the parochial, orthodoxy of liturgical Christianity, ordered aright in laws, tenets, creeds and rules, yet lacking at its center, the living, breathing, persona of our God described so breathtakingly as a consuming fire!

Nothing Less Than Life-Changing

As a Christian who was brought up with the dismal view of Heaven as sitting around singing "Amazing Grace" ad nauseum for eternity, the book helped reshape my view of living a life for Christ and connected me with my hopes, dreams and desires in an entirely new manner. For everyone who has walked away from the Church and its duties and obligations, this book will help you reshape your theology into one that celebrates the life God sent His Son to die for. You're not the only one who has had questions that nobody else talks about; Elderidge brings them out into the open and offers scriptural solutions.

Great reminder of God's Love & the Battle

Where does Desire rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Almost to the top!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did cry in some areas that really "hit home" with stuff I have dealt with in life.
