Better than the first book.

Not the best book I've ever read, but it's still pretty good. The characters are still kind of dry. The story line is flat and predictable. The best thing about this book is the military detail and the flight jargon. The author knows his stuff and makes the flight portions of the book believable. The other parts aren't bad but aren't the best.

Kevin Miller Scores Again!

Miller does a masterful job adding virtue into his stories without ever sounding preachy. It's always a delight hearing our main protagonist; Wilson and the squadron get together they struggle through military life because it feels authentic. Miller (a former fighter pilot) knows what military life is really like in terms of gender relations, diversity, leadership(good/bad). The flying sequences are fun and exciting while being very nicely detailed for someone who loves aviation. My only complaint is the portrayal of the Venezuelan drug cartels is a little on the silly side, but this keeps the story from getting too dark making it accessible to young adults.

Good not great like Raven 1

Feminist activist ruins squadron mates for her personal agenda? Could that actually happen? Don’t know, but as a former company commander and Battalion commander prospect, I know what the United States Army would have done to a betrayer of a fellow soldier, and fellow member of the officer corps exhibiting that behavior- and a Silver Star would not be the result… Maybe the mud and the ever present sand in our eyes, our weapons and our … Once a Soldier/Once a Marine communications gear, give Army Soldiers and US Marines a particular point of view we eat the same dirt often on each other’s flank and we deride each others service mercilessly, but we know… WE KNOW!

Declared Hostile - fantastic.

Declared Hostile was even better than Raven One! Colorful characters, well developed. Put me on the edge of my seat a lot. Combat scenes made me feel like I was in the cockpit!

Great follow up to Raven One. You should read this book.

A Second gripping read from Kevin Miller

Plenty of excitement for those who love naval/military fiction. This book, like the first in the series, is filled with exciting combat scenes, along with the everyday personalities in ships and squadrons that cross over into how military personnel perform under the stress of adversity. This adds a level of reality that is not found in many books of this genre.
The narration is also excellent, and I recall none of the "annoying" mispronunciations of ships and/or locations in this audiobook.

Amazing story!!

Narrator could have been coached on military jargon better. Broke immersion everytime he spelled out an acronym instead of saying it.

A great read!

I found this book to be very well written. Declared hostel is well researched, and the characters are quite believable, as is the story itself. This would be a great story for anyone who is interested in military action novels, or related genres.

Policeman to the world

I can see how this story could be true. It could happen just as depicted. In fact many times I wondered if it was? I enjoyed the novel and will be waiting for another one from Capt Miller. I also enjoy his appearances with Ward Carol on YouTube. Much respect! “Hoser”

Good follow up.

The technical detail, prose, and narration are just as excellent as in Raven One, but the cast was on the large side and it didn’t feel like there was time to get invested in the characters the way I did in Raven One. Not a bad book, but it didn’t have the “drop everything and listen” ability that the first book does.

Overall, good story, but messy

Good story overall, but seemed like a book of two halves. First half was much different than the second, and the second seemed very chaotic and sometimes hard to follow. Ending felt a little rushed and closing chapters seemed somewhat tacked on to tidy the ending up, not really providing a satisfying resolution.

Audio performance was riddled with issues, ranging from the varied pronunciation of “Bolivarian” (sometimes switching to “Boliviaran”) to inconsistencies with the book. Seems like maybe editing changes were made between recording and publishing. Performance overall was lackluster, with the emotion being mostly even keeled and not always suiting the situation or context.
