Publisher's summary

When 16-year-old Amanda Verner's family decides to move from their small mountain cabin to the vast prairie, she hopes it is her chance for a fresh start. She can leave behind the memory of the past winter; of her sickly ma giving birth to a baby sister who cries endlessly; of the terrifying visions she saw as her sanity began to slip, the victim of cabin fever; and, most of all, of the boy she has been secretly meeting with as a distraction from her pain. The boy whose baby she now carries.

When the Verners arrive at their new home, a large cabin abandoned by its previous owners, they discover the inside covered in blood. And as the days pass, it is obvious to Amanda that something isn't right on the prairie. She's heard stories of lands being tainted by evil, of men losing their minds and killing their families, and there is something strange about the doctor and his son who live in the woods on the edge of the prairie. But with the guilt and shame of her sins weighing on her, Amanda can't be sure if the true evil lies in the land or deep within her soul.

Little House on the Prairie meets Stephen King

I saw this book described as this and had to give it a try - it definitely did not disappoint! It was scary, but not over the top and the Jorjeana Marie was the perfect choice as a narrator. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed, but overall this one hooked me and I enjoyed every minute!

Nightmares!

It’s been a long time since I was able to find a book that kept me glancing over my shoulder and legit gave me nightmares! This was a bit of a slow starter, but ended with a bang! It did not disappoint!

Good Horror

I enjoyed the buildup of this story. it is a good length novel for the style of tale. not a whole lot happens in between slice of life things in the sense of horror and action. the suspense builds while the family tries to just survive. I really enjoyed this. I recommend this for anyone looking for a good spooky read. I'll be reading more of miss Lukavics work come Halloween time for sure if she has more horror.

One Intense Ride that Will Leave You Horrified

Amy Lukavic has created something that has stayed with me for three nights off horror. Our narrator, Amanda, leads this story in one horrifying decision after another and then outside forces become even worse than what she has done.

As far as the review that is at the top of the audiobook cover, I do have a few things to say about that. Author Cat Winters described the book by saying "Imagine Stephen King Writing Little House on the Prairie." I completely understand what Cat Winters was trying to say with this comparison. However, I must say that Amy is a MUCH better writer than Stephen King and that has nothing to do with my Shakespearean theory of Stephen King. (basically, I believe that MANY people write under the name of Stephen King, based on all the different styles and genres written). Okay, I know that people are going to be mad about me, because of how much they love Stephen King. I just don't think my opinion on Mr. King should affect how people take my reviews.

Anyway, I give the storyline an A- and I also give the narrator, Ms. Jorjeana Marie, an A- as well. She did the PERFECT child's voice. The only thing I would like her to have done was a demonic voice toward the end. Other than that, she told one AMAZING story.

Overall, if you want a story to scare the crap out of you, listen or read Devil Unto Daughters by Amy Lukavics!

Not bad

It was slow until the last few chapters but the narrator did a great job so I kept with it. The ending left me wanting more. It felt unfinished to me. There were some things that I really wish would have been different but all in all it was pretty good.

Awful

I am so sorry, I never leave comments. But I just have to say that I regret spending a credit on this. It's just awful. I tried to return it, but guess I was too far into the book for Audible to see fit. It's just stupid. Please don't waste your money.

Suspend your disbelief.

I thought the book got off to a slow start with so much focus on the protagonist’s love life, but perhaps it was needed or others found it entertaining. Once the love scenes were over I got interested in the story. What I didn’t care for were the descriptions of “little house on the prairie” that were not accurate for the time period. There were many descriptions such as “she still had her hand on the doorknob,” but doorknobs weren’t invented yet. Those descriptions brought my mind out of the book like seeing a Starbucks cup in a Game of Thrones scene. Otherwise, I did listen to the whole book and I could have used more of an ending.
