Publisher's summary

Ted and Mary Anderson have just returned home to Villejeune, Florida, to start again. Little do they know that they will soon be drawn into a nightmare of unholy ceremony and unutterable horror.…

The small town of Villejeune, Florida, lies far enough from the inquisitive eyes of strangers and even the reaches of the law that a community with its own customs, rituals, and deadly rites has grown there. In order to start fresh after a failed job prospect and unexpected emotional trauma for their teenage daughter, Ted and Mary Anderson have returned home to Villejeune, unaware of the growing malevolence there. Soon, they are thrust into a nightmare as their sweet but troubled daughter, Kelly, is pulled into the darkness that seems to have consumed the town. Like the other children in Villejeune, her life and her very soul are soon threatened by the shadowy, ancient evil that drives the residents of Villejeune to commit their terrible deeds.

ChrisAnns review of Darkness

Loved it. Like the way it ended with the bad people being punished. Very good.

This narration is rough.

The story is great. But...
The Narrator end every sentence with an exclamation!
It's exhausting!
All the time!
Every line!
I can' handle this!

Prince of the Outcasts

I confess, this was a nostalgic revisit for me. The book transported me into that addictive John Saul 'young adult'-tinged cinematic experience on several occasions.

Kudos to Angela Dawe. Solid performance!

Another great Saul story

Love Johns books. Wish there were more being written. This was a unique story with good character development, despite the narrators lack of ability to make the male voices sound unique. This sometimes made it hard to tell who was talking. But her female voices were great. Looking forward to another book (hoping for a different narrator tho).

Truly interesting

I love John Saul Novels however this narrator drive me bananas the way she read it. It’s no need for her to tell the story this way all high pitched. It caused me to have a migraine something fierce 🤕

The narrator ruined the book.

This has always been my favorite John Saul book. Unfortunately the narrator was horrible and ruined it for me. She sounded more like she was reading the news. Every sentence had a long pause after it and was spoken like a exclamation point. The high squealing children’s voices and women’s voices were hard to listen to. Overall the voice didn’t fit the story. A southern story should have a southern accent.

Horrible Narration

This is one of my favorite books (great story), but I can’t even get passed the prologue. The narrator is awful!!!
