Publisher's summary

Hilariously read by Sally Phillips, star of Smack the Pony, Bridget Jones Diary and Miranda - Confessions of a Forty-Something F--k Up is a must-listen for anyone whose life isn’t working out quite how they’d planned.

Now a major TV series: Not Dead Yet, starring Gina Rogriguez (Jane the Virgin), Hannah Simone (New Girl) and Lauren Ash (Superstore).

Nell Stevens’ life is a mess. When her business goes bust and her fiancé with it, Nell’s happy ever after in California falls apart and she moves back to London to start over. But a lot has changed since she’s been gone. All her single friends are now married with children, sky-high rents force her to rent a room in a stranger’s house and in a world of perfect Instagram lives, she feels like a f--k up. Even worse, a forty-something f--k up.

But when she lands a job writing obituaries, Nell meets the fabulous Cricket, an eighty-something widow with challenges of her own, and they strike up an unlikely friendship. Together they begin to help each other heal their aching hearts, cope with the loss of the lives they had planned, and push each other into new adventures and unexpected joys.

Because Nell is determined. Next year things are going to be very different. It’s time to turn her life around.

A book for anyone who’s ever worried life isn’t going to plan, Confessions of a Forty-Something F--k Up by Alexandra Potter will make you laugh and it might even make you cry. But most importantly, it will remind you that you’re not alone, because we’re all in this together.

Just what I needed!

This book has literally given me back my hope! I am a self confessed 30 something fk up - a starving artist about to be divorced & moving back to Ireland after living in California for the last 7 years! I felt like such a failure but after reading this book I feel like there is hope.. & some beauty & inspiration even in my life & my story! I am so grateful I came across this book & I even cried when it was over!!! Thank you for this! Lucy xox

Better than expected

I wanted to read something light and found the good reviews of this book, so thought I would give it a shot. Well… I really loved it! I just finished and am sad that I won’t be able to listen any longer. The story was well written and much deeper than I expected. Although I’m married I also related tremendously with being a 40 something f*** up. The story was brilliant and had lots of hidden gems I wasn’t expecting. The narration was also spot on. So glad I chose this book!!!

Topics

People smile and laugh they hide pain and sadness hidden behind their eyes. Makes you wonder who your friends could be. You start to think how much you have accomplished at forty and it seems like you have achieved all the goals you had set for yourself as life goes on throwing curve balls your way.

Occasionally, keeping things interested and alive. It is scary, it is difficult and there are no right or wrong answers. Then again with good friends, good wine, and a sense of humor you can get through alive and happy.

Embrace your sense of humor, do not take yourself too seriously. Every day is another chance to laugh instead of cry, and when nothing is certain sometimes it is best when you make fun of it.

I like the show “Not Dead Yet” better than the book. It makes you laugh; I can keep up with the characters.
