Publisher's summary

For the first time in one audio collection, all 16 Yes Minister radio episodes plus six further TV episodes, 14 Yes Prime Minister episodes and two bonus sketches.

Between 1980 and 1988 on BBC television and radio, the exploits of the Rt Hon Jim Hacker MP (Paul Eddington) - later Prime Minister - kept the British nation enthralled. Helped - and hampered - by his diligent Permanent Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby (Nigel Hawthorne) and his Principle Private Secretary Bernard Woolley (Derek Fowlds), Hacker and his department became synonymous with government bureaucracy and administrative double dealing. Presented here, for the first time in one collection, are the complete radio series of Yes Minister and the complete BBC television soundtracks of Yes Prime Minister. Also included are six TV soundtracks of Yes Minister and two special bonus mini-episodes: "The PM’s Plan", recorded in 1984 with Margaret Thatcher as herself, and a special segment created for "The Funny Side of Christmas" in 1982.

It's funny because it's true.

Regardless of the original production date, this series remains funny because it is still relevant. This is one that I can listen to repeatedly. The characters are interesting, funny, and knowable. The topics are real, the situations all too familiar, and you just know this is what really goes on in government, doubtless no matter the country. Yes Minister and the follow-up Yes Prime Minister are just funny- plain and simple.

Brilliant and still relevant

Wonderful series.
Definitely in the category of they don't make them like this anymore, and more the shame.
Brilliant actors at the top of there game.
The speeches by Sir Humprey still bring a smile to me every time I hear them

Political satire of the highest calibre.

Absolutely superb. Sharp dialogue which was always the backbone of the show when on TV and as a result a 95% successful as an audio book. Physical humour was certainly at a minimum and for many it may even help expand one's vocabulary.

The best of British

The character development leads the listener through a right old romp through British politics. I can listen to it again and again.

Best course in civics you could possibly take

Even though this series is decades old, the lessons it teaches about democracy, power, and politics are as fresh as today. Written by British insiders with tongue firmly in cheek and keeping the upper lip stiff, it is both entertaining and enlightening. The actors bring the words to life and, although much of this audio series comes straight from the video--laugh track and all--it still entertains. If you have the good fortune to see the videos (youtube has most of them) hearing the dialogue refreshes the memory of the horrified facial expressions that are so well done in the videos. Definitely recommend.
