If you could sum up True Porn Clerk Stories in three words, what would they be?

I don't know. Why do I have to write a review based on your criteria? The book is a quick read (or listen as the case may be) and totally hilarious in an "oh my God do these people really exist?" kind of way.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ali. Why? Because she kicks ass and manages to be hilarious while asking deep social, psychological, and philosophical questions.

Have you listened to any of Ali Davis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is her first, but I hope it's not her last.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

It's like Empire Records, but funnier, creepier, and...*ahem*....stickier.

This book will not disappoint. And if it does, then you have bad taste.

Ali Davis keeps a straight face and a kind heart.

For anyone who's been in the retail trenches, or spent time in the sweat-scented aisles of an old fashioned video store, Ali Davis is your voice.

Ali has so much compassion for her customers, while still recognizing the shiftiness and downright unlikability of others. My favorite story is of Ali finding her moment of power, channeling her inner High School Principal and expelling a "jerker" from the porn basement—but things were not what they seemed.

Human nature is laid bare; the politics of singles, couples, and groups; and the "drift" from vanilla to kink. Ali records the faces that people present versus what they rent.

Smirk worthy, OK distraction

This is a collection of individual stories and (I think) podcasts. The stories generated a smirk or two. Never a laugher. It is a good distraction but not as crazy and funny as hoped

Somewhat entertaining

Well, I usually buy books from which I can learn something, and this book reminded me as to why. It wasn't hard to listen to the whole thing, but it left me feeling like it was just a big waste of time when it was over.

Okay, so this book is HILARIOUS!

I actually miss working retail so this was a fun little nostalgia filled audiobook. Ali Davis reads the book so it was really fun to listen to her inflections while telling the stories.

This book does deal with porn so some people are going to hate it, some people are going to love it. Personally, I love that this book normalizes porn to a small extent. I highly recommend reading this book. It's fun, unique and anyone that has worked retail can relate to it.

Just read it. You know you're curious.

Truly Hilarious

The is easily the funniest, laugh-out-loud, audiobook I know. I keep looking for Ali Davis to publish something else -- what a talent!

Fairly Interesting

I thought the book was fairly interesting. I'm trying to find books on humor to improve my comedy writing. I did get some chuckles. I found it was basically, the author, an overqualified porn video clerk (college graduate?) complaining about her crappy minimum wage job and annoying customers. Hmmm... what things would porn customers do that would be annoying?... Much has to do with why they would get the videos in the first place. So, male bodily fluid issues on the rental returns, etc. By the end, I felt like I was reading about a conscientious, diligent, kind librarian, only a video porn one. And, she covered some of her customer relationships, kept at arm's length. I'm glad that she was able to move on to a better job.
