"Intelligent comedy...brilliantly written...the sign of the way forward...blend of quiet indignation and almost-visionary insight." (Scotland Herald, Edinburgh)
I'm at a loss to describe Maria, maybe because it's like trying to define what's funny. I like some intellectual meat on my funny bones, I like surprise, I like smart, I like honest and I like open. She has an amazing repertoire of voices that she uses deftly to skewer types of people we all have to deal with on the job, on the street, in our families. This recording revolves a lot around the tribulations of a single woman - if that's you it may have extra resonance. Bottom line, Maria makes me laugh, loud and often. I think she's a national treasure and I hope she gets the recognition she deserves for being a unique and hilarious voice for many years now.
avid reader, on my way to avid listener. also an employee at Audible.
Maria Bamford's weird, absurdist sense of humor is wonderfully dark, intimate, and hilarious. She has fantastic insights into the strange minutiae of every day interactions. She is a wizard when it comes to accurately expressing the awkwardness and weirdness of people that only an expert derealist can manage. If you like this, I highly recommend The Maria Bamford Show on YouTube!
Maria Bamford is the funniest American comic I've heard in years! Too many female comics rely on foul-mouthed shock material, but Maria uses her (deceptive) sweetness, character inventiveness, a wonderfully versatile voice, and hysticial ideas to make you laugh. She truly made me laugh out loud--please give her a try!
"A brilliant standup"
Probably the best American standup around at the moment. Bamford is charming, engaging and very funny. Still funny after many listens
I love her. She's hilarious and leftfield and brilliant, even with the diet coke hump and the whiskers.
