The Reduced Shakespeare Company is an uproarious acting troupe that performs abridged versions of mammoth subject matter, like the complete works of Shakespeare, and the history of America, and now The Bible: The Complete Word of God.
Seemingly nothing is too reverent in the Good Book for these super-talented and very funny actors to prod and poke. Get ready for some sinfully good fun.
The Bible ran at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., for four smash hit months in 1995.
As they tell it themselves, "We wrote The Bible (Abridged) when the good folks at Washington D.C.'s Kennedy Center requested a follow-up to our eight-week sold-out run of Shakespeare and America."
After workshops as far off-Broadway as possible (Alaska) the show premiered at the Kennedy Center in 1995. It ran for 12 sold-out weeks and received a Helen Hayes Award nomination for Outstanding New Play.
The Bible (Abridged) was recorded over three hectic days in London.

For the most part I really enjoyed The complete Works of God abridged. There were a few 'Mad Magazine humor' moments, but as a whole, the Complete Works was genuinly smart and funny. They say it best in the show. "This audio work is rated PG-13...Pretty Good if you're 13." I'm 28 and I loved it.
The only thing missing in this book is the visual effects. Definitely listen to the sample and you'll see why this is one of the funniest and most well thought comedy skits that I have ever heard. Along with comic poetry and song, the interaction and timing of the actors is priceless. No doubt that the authors and narrators practiced long and hard to make this book one of the best I've ever heard. I can't wait until my brother comes over and hears it. Five thumbs up!
I could not bear listening after a short time. The humor was very childish and plain unfunny. I think the previous reviewer must work for the authors but, then again, humor is very subjective. Still, I found the range of talent and humor to run all the way frrom A to B. Sorry but I would not buy it. I wish I could sell it back.
This was more of an EP than a book but it was a fun way to fill a workout session or two.
The Reduced Shakespeare Company are a fun group to listen to. If they can bring life to such a dry subject as The Bible, then I imagine they can make most anything engaging.
I've been a huge fan of the Reduced Shakespeare Company for years and I was full of hope and expectation when I purchased this audiobook. While I'm not religious at all, I found most of the humor to be offensive. I felt myself cringing a lot more than I laughed. The cast of this audiobook are natural performers, and I enjoyed hearing their voices a lot more than I enjoyed hearing what they were saying. To each their own I guess, but I wouldn't listen to it again.
I loved the reduced Shakespere stage show but this one is just silly. May have been good on stage but does not translate well to Audio...?
I giggled all the way through! I've listened to this performance over and over again, and every time I hear something I missed the last time. Great listening to lift your spirits!
