"If Mr. Gervais made only podcasts for the rest of his career, I'd keep downloading." (The New York Times)
this audiobook is hilarious! I was listening to it while walking home from work and I had to turn it off! I was laughing soo loud I thought people would think I was crazy. Definitely worth checking out :)
I don't think I've ever laughed so hard for so long in my entire life! Off the wall and completely mad, Karl Pilkington's unique perspective on various topics is not only mind-boggling, but laugh out loud funny! Silly, ridiculous, and utterly entertaining, the Ricky Gervais Show is brilliant! I was completely won over.
Simply put, the ratio of gut busting laughs to dollars spent is far greater than any other podcast/audiobook I have ever purchase. This is $5 you'll never regret spending. Karl is a force of nature!!!
I actually laughed outloud. Where Ricky and Steve (creator's of the office) found their co-host Carl Pllkington is unclear, I am never sure if he is serious or not, I do know that the three of them having a conversation is one of the funniest things I have heard in a long time. Gervais gets a bit loud at times, and a bit harsh with Carl. Really great stuff...
This program is simple fun at a great price. It's much like listening to your favorite disc jockeys carry on without commercials or songs to interrupt the banter.
Ricky, Steven and Carl report and debate the merits of everything from world news and scientific research to sucking up to program sponsors. "Monkey News" tends to be a favorite topic, including whether a NASA chimp would be plunged into suicidal depression after being replaced by human astronauts. If contemplating such off the wall issues sounds fun, you've come to the right place.
While there are a few explicit terms thrown around, this show is by no means as explicit as a Howard Stern Episode. (Think more of the irreverance of a Monty Python show.) If anything, this program reminds you of the sheer joy of brainstorming, a good argument and solving the world's problems over a cold beer.
There are lulls in the laughs, but that's a good thing because my bladder can only hold so much.
Although it'd be nice if things could be so funny without someone being made fun of, and I sometimes wonder if I shouldn't be feeling sorry for Karl, I'd give my left one to a crazed chimpanzee to get in there with Steve and Rick for a bash at Karl.
I drive to work wishing that I had more than a 30 minute commute and that the first season would last me more than a workweek. I had to get the next seasons just to keep laughing my way into work.
I highly recommend it for those who like to listen to funny people ramble.
I found this and the other 2 series mostly hilarious, apart from sometimes getting irritated by the way Gervais is so screechingly arrogant. But Karl is wonderful to listen too...far too funny to be for real. His simplistic attitude to life and technology is hilariously refreshing...for example, his assumption that lawyers in the UK wear wigs in court as disguises.
If you don't find humor in the absurd, then Karl's very British attitudes are probably not going to have you laughing out loud. I personally can't get enough ofit, and would gladly pay for many more series!
Being a great fan of The Office, I expected this audiobook of podcasts to be quirky and funny. Instead we have inane chit chat between the three, and it's actually hard to believe that Karl can be so ignorant, stupid and lacklustre. Nothing is helped by the continual background scathing cackle at Karls' expense from Ricky. Expected a belly laugh, but just got a BIG YAWN, hardly even raised a smile. Ho-hum and boring, don't waste your money.
I gained a whole new appreciation of Ricky Gervais after listening to this....ended up heading to blockbuster and rented out all his stand up dvd's funny funny guy!
I would recommend this to EVERYBODY that speaks English. It's just about the funniest thing I've ever heard. I listen to it constantly, I know every line, every joke, every word. Awesome Christmas present.
This is jut a fantastic podcats, simple as that. Most of what is talked about is absolute nonsense but its very funny so who cares! Rockbusters is not as funny as monkey news but because it is so stupid it is also funny. Keep it up lads.
"The Karl Pilkington Show"
Everyone that has listened to this Audiobook or Podcast is fully aware why I have that as my title.
Ricky Gervais, in my opinion, doesn't suit my taste in humour. However, he's come up to the top end of my list with his show, and the brilliant thing about it is that his name is in the title, and all he does is talk to his friends about a certain subject between them.
Now, in that description, it's hard to find where the humour lies, but if you were to give it a chance, you will find that Karl is the real star of this show.
This bald headed Radio Producer, now presenter, broadcaster and author from Manchester has the most unique mind I have ever come to take notice of.
It's as if Homer Simpson was a real person, only even less hair, more brain dead and had a Northern accent to him.
He has some moments where you see where he's coming from and you laugh because you either agree, but pretty much all of the time, you just laugh at these ridiculous things that you're hearing him say.
Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are there to reflect on Karl's comments and thoughts and just make it as though the three of them were down the pub having a laugh, and that's what this show is all about, three lads having a laugh at the expense of Karl and his wonderful brain machine.
"the holy trinity of comedy"
it's quite possible that this is the funniest thing you will ever listen to, in my opinion anyway. ricky gervais, stephen merchant and karl pilkington talking about anything and everything. this may sound boring but it's quite the oposite, i have laughed till ive nearly cried listening to these podcasts. i must have listened to every episode in every series about 20 times and i still never get bored of them. highly recommended.
so good, I have bought all the others in the series since. I am still waiting for more. What a team. I have laughed til I cried and had to lend my ipod to friends, who have since downloaded the series. I have to admit I did feel that Karl was being picked on, but I soon got over that and Steve Merchant often comes to his rescue to let him finish his anecdote.
These are saved as favorites and I still lend my ipod to those who are uninitiated. a must buy
"Ricky Gervais Show: The Complete First Season"
Ricky Gervais and friends are absolutely brilliant! His humour is so basic but right on the button. Anything from their hairstyles to air travel is mentioned and made so funny using Karl Pilkington's ignorance of various topics. It's as if Karl has come from another planet(Planet Zog). Amazing the man is a genius!
"Hillarious! Get out of a bad mood quick material!"
What can I say but pure comedy genius?
I love how Ricky, Steve and Karl bounce off each other with such ease and hilarity! For something to tickle me it has to be natural and every-day conversational but with major amounts of random quirk thrown in. This for me hits the perfect spot!
If you love our greatest export - British humour, you'll love this!
My favourite bits are when Ricky just bursts into spontaneous uncontrollable cackling laughter - its so contagious and extremely releasing in an almost healing kind of way.
I love Steve's matter of fact comment and commentary, most of all his densely heavily intense deep dark comedy Bristolian accent! I find that so funny!
And of course best till last - the owner of that perfectly round head, Mr. Pilkington! Karl is the funny for being himself and not even trying. For my money that's pure comedy genius!
I've been a fan of these three since their XFM days. The trouble with listening to this at work, is that it will make me laugh out loud (literally), which gets me some odd looks from co-workers. I really like the chemistry and banter between these three.
"as funny as I remember"
Definitely worth a listen. Though I seem to remember these ones were free when they were first released.
I was unsure what this would be like before buying but I don't regret it for a minute, enjoyed it all the way through and very handy for long car journeys.
