"If Mr. Gervais made only podcasts for the rest of his career, I'd keep downloading." (The New York Times)
Being a great fan of The Office, I expected this audiobook of podcasts to be quirky and funny. Instead we have inane chit chat between the three, and it's actually hard to believe that Karl can be so ignorant, stupid and lacklustre. Nothing is helped by the continual background scathing cackle at Karls' expense from Ricky. Expected a belly laugh, but just got a BIG YAWN, hardly even raised a smile. Ho-hum and boring, don't waste your money.
I enjoyed this introductory season of Ricky Gervais' podcast. By the end, you're happy to hear Ricky admitting that it should be called the Karl Pilkington show as Karl ends up doing the lionshare of the talking. Karl's quite the eccentric personality.
I don't want to give too much away, so I'm being purposely vague. It would suffice to say, however, that this season isn't really about Ricky Gervais' comedy, but instead showcases his ability to see what could be entertaining, and his ability to steer it in that direction.
As a lover of audio books, and a great fan of comedy, I really looked forward to this wildly popular program. The program is full of slapstick British humor, which was a mis-match for my American taste. Nonetheless, I found myself often scratching my head and asking "how was that funny?" after Karl Pilkington offered many of his wild ideas on life. Then, his counterparts scoff and laugh wildly like school children at his mildly humorous statements. Admittedly, there were moments where I was tickled, but overall I was disappointed.
Comedy gold I have listened to it over and over again and still love it
loved listening to this, so funny! Don't listen to it on the tube, as you won't be able to control yourself.
"never fails to make me cry."
not how many times I have heard this but it make me laugh out loud everytime.
"Kiick-start your laughing out loud therapy here!"
Guy Martin, Karl Pilkington, John Lydon..............unique people we NEED in this world!!
Laughing out loud and crying with laughter are things we do less as we get older. This does the trick. Karls, sometimes crazy, unique slant on life once I've done fighting to pee my pants are in reality pretty spot on. He makes A LOT of sense.
The dynamics between the guys is superb. I do have to agree with a couple of reviewers that a few times Ricky and Steve slip into almost bullying mode, but I guess Karl must be ok with that.
Makes me so happy
All of them
Ricky and his chums messing around.
This man is such an advocate of animal rights. Wonderful human being.
"Just simply hilarious"
I don't think there is a sentence spoken that doesn't make me laugh, just brilliant.
Karl Pilkington is one of the funniest people to be given air time, ever. With Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervais setting him up, he never fails to come up with hilariously draft nonsense that always makes me roar. Great when you need a good laugh. Pretty cheap too.
"Don't listen in public!"
Usually I listen to audiobooks when I'm walking or sitting on a bench watching the sea, but when I tried with this recording I found myself giggling hysterically, particularly around episodes five and six. Consequently I had to listen to this audio book at home. Carl is really weird and his diary which they read out is really funny.
Love Karl Ricky and Steve so when I saw the entire season on deal of the day I couldn't pass it up
"Hereth awakens the legend of Karl Pilkington.."
Just brilliant - I challenge anyone not to find this hilarious. Karl Pilkington is a very very unique beast
