"If Mr. Gervais made only podcasts for the rest of his career, I'd keep downloading." (The New York Times)
I bought this audio book based on all the great reviews. I was terribly disappointed once I started listening to it. I believe the only attractive quality of the program is that it is very cheap, which leads me to the old maxim - you get what you pay for.
These guys just drone on and on. Nothing very clever or profound ever comes out of their mouths. Their delightful cheeky British voices make for good background banter, however I cannot stress the disappointment that befell me upon listening to this audio book.
If you would like to laugh then get - Greg Giraldo (very crass but extremely funny) , Mitch Headberg, and Demitri Martin. These guys are very funny. With them you will not get 6 hours or mindless boredom.
These boys are very, very funny. If you're missing British humour in your life you ought to download it - even my mother who has a hard time understanding British accents laughed out loud.
I enjoyed this introductory season of Ricky Gervais' podcast. By the end, you're happy to hear Ricky admitting that it should be called the Karl Pilkington show as Karl ends up doing the lionshare of the talking. Karl's quite the eccentric personality.
I don't want to give too much away, so I'm being purposely vague. It would suffice to say, however, that this season isn't really about Ricky Gervais' comedy, but instead showcases his ability to see what could be entertaining, and his ability to steer it in that direction.
As a lover of audio books, and a great fan of comedy, I really looked forward to this wildly popular program. The program is full of slapstick British humor, which was a mis-match for my American taste. Nonetheless, I found myself often scratching my head and asking "how was that funny?" after Karl Pilkington offered many of his wild ideas on life. Then, his counterparts scoff and laugh wildly like school children at his mildly humorous statements. Admittedly, there were moments where I was tickled, but overall I was disappointed.
Its afew years old now but still very funny.
karl is just a mad man.. if you havent heard it for a while its must..
Brilliant, listened to it the first time around. Still as good as the first time I listened
"loved it.ive listened so many times"
I love ricky steve and Karl. I have all there podcasts.audiobooks and listen to them over and over they are hilarious
"Great very funny"
This is a great podcast that's very funny and eat to listen to and to pass time, full of great stories by all 3 especially Karl.
"Laugh out loud funny."
The trio manage to take everyday topics and turn them into subjects you will roar with laughter about. Needless to say Karl is the star of the show with his off the wall thinking.
"Fantastic and funny"
I have not read the print version, but audio i think would be the best way to hear this
His laugh, i had tears running down my face
Just listening to all three of them. It was so natural.
laughter and tears because it was so funny
You must listen to this on audible
"Karl Pilkington is the star of this!"
Yes. Despite being almost a decade old this is very funny, factually stupid and a complete waste of time. A must listen!
Second series is primed, ready to be listened to soon.
Ricky can be annoying and over the top. He constantly has a go at Karl which can get on your nerves. That said he is funny. Steve acts as a referee for the most part and is equally funny. Karl for me is the star. Yes, some of the things he says are daft but then his honesty is refreshing and down to earth.
"Ricky, Karl and Steven at their finest"
This podcast collection is hilarious, filled with incredibly funny anecdotes, stories and all round Pilkington nonsense that we have all come to know and love.
"Hillarious! Get out of a bad mood quick material!"
What can I say but pure comedy genius?
I love how Ricky, Steve and Karl bounce off each other with such ease and hilarity! For something to tickle me it has to be natural and every-day conversational but with major amounts of random quirk thrown in. This for me hits the perfect spot!
If you love our greatest export - British humour, you'll love this!
My favourite bits are when Ricky just bursts into spontaneous uncontrollable cackling laughter - its so contagious and extremely releasing in an almost healing kind of way.
I love Steve's matter of fact comment and commentary, most of all his densely heavily intense deep dark comedy Bristolian accent! I find that so funny!
And of course best till last - the owner of that perfectly round head, Mr. Pilkington! Karl is the funny for being himself and not even trying. For my money that's pure comedy genius!
I've been a fan of these three since their XFM days. The trouble with listening to this at work, is that it will make me laugh out loud (literally), which gets me some odd looks from co-workers. I really like the chemistry and banter between these three.
