Publisher's summary

Welcome to the paperless (or "audiobook") edition of More Information Than You Require, a further compendium of COMPLETE WORLD KNOWLEDGE assembled and illumined by John Hodgman, a Famous Minor Television Personality. It contains all of the half-truths, fake trivia, amazing made-up facts, and molemanic lore as the paper edition, narrated here almost entirely by Resident Expert John Hodgman, occasionally interrupted by this veritable extravaganza of illustrious and sometimes presumptuous guests: Dick Cavett, Jonathan Coulton, Zach Galifianakis, Ricky Gervais, Ira Glass, Robin Goldwasser, Rachel Maddow, Paul Rudd, Paul F. Tompkins, and Sarah Vowell.

PLUS: This recording includes ALL 700 MOLE-MAN NAMES as they were written and subsequently performed LIVE BEFORE A STUDIO AUDIENCE in an underground lair in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Critic reviews

"In every way a continuation of Areas of My Expertise, except in the ways it's clearly superior....More Information Than You Require is exactly the tonic for these truth-challenged times: a transformation of pedestrian reality through the enlightened power of imagination and insatiable list-making." (The Onion A/V Club)
"I love this book so much I nearly read it." (Justin Long)

Not horrible, but not funny. I expected funny.

If you're a raving fan of John Hodgman, you'll probably enjoy this book. I thought I might have been one. It turns out I wasn't.

Kept waiting for it to get funny

akin to listening to my 12 year old nephew. started skipping chapters to see if it got funny. wish I had read the reviews before buying.

Sorry to write this review

I love John Hodgeman - but I guess it's in person. I found this painful to listen to: unfunny, predictable, and even annoying at the end with the list of random info events. I didn't get his first book, but it likely has the same style -- if you liked that, you may find this worthwhile.

Disappointed

I have a great sense of humor and I love satire. I could not listen to this book. It is just not funny.

Tedious

What begins as a infrequently humorous becomes tedious then painfully dull and finally unlistenable. Mr Hodgman found his perfect niche in commercials due to their short length; a book like this is unbearable. Even one of his co-narrators falls asleep during the reading of this book. Couldn't make it through the second audio download as I am not into self mutilation. Avoid at all costs!

I tried so hard to like this...

Okay I lie, I simply attempted to listen to it twice. At the sake of risking the "unhelpful" reaction to those who loved this book, I can only plead the truth: this book made me fall alseep at the wheel. Okay almost. I realized it was doing so and changed over to Molly Harper to perk things up. I would blame this on simple tiredness but it was only 6pm and I had just started driving thirty minutes earlier - I just cant give a good review to a book that made me go cross-eyed and swerve dangerously close to the shoulder. Round two didnt fair much better and after an hour of hoping the guest stars would perk things up I realized this book wasn't for me.

I can see how some would like it tho! If you like Wes Anderson or The Office I'm sure you'll adore this book. I myself am more of a Big Bang Theory meets Jane Austen kinda girl so this was a little too dry for my taste. For that, I will not give it the one star rating of doom and will probably recommend it to various friends with a smile.

Too much reference to smoking pot for me

Okay, I could only get through the first couple of chapters and a few things were interesting, the having two people narrate, for instance, but in the portion I listened to, he followed up on something interesting with a noninteresting fact related to "if you smoked pot"-kind of thing. Sorry; I've never smoked pot and just can't connect with you...
