a religious experience, to be sure

I went into this expecting nothing other then to occasionally be entertained, I did not expect to have presented to me, so many insightful and deeply personal moments from one Mr.Black.

although I feel like the book lost some direction in the later 1/4 (as can happen when a joke goes on a while) I'm still very glad to have listened to it in Lewis's own voice. Honestly, it did leave me with a few deeper meanings to weight, the insights of which in sure will reveal themselves in time.

it was also quite and unexpected treat to hear the voice of Mark Linn-Baker in the last act of the performance. Mr.Linn-Baker was a great source of entertainment on perfect strangers along side Bronson Pinchot. in fact I think it's perhaps perfect that I be reminded of perfect strangers, for as a child with a very turbulent upbringing the show often brought me comfort and joy. The power of comedy knows no age after all.

Lewis has made me realize I need to work harder to laugh again. even in these awful times.

Lewis Black at his best!!!

His unique no-nonsense attitude is enjoyable and hilarious. Not only I laughed, I also learned about the irony of humans on this earth.

Just okay, not his best

The schtick outweighs the humor. Far better are his concerts. Thankfully brief. I was surprised.

Just OK...and I love Lewis Black!

Typical LB...but just not the same not actually SEEING him perform it. Still, funny and worth it...just not something to put at the top of your list.

Skip the play at the end - No FOMO

If you are already a fan of Lewis Black and his brand of humor, then you'll enjoy this book. I listened to the audiobook read by the author, and I literally laughed out loud. I'm also an atheist and part of the target audience for this book, but Black doesn't use his writing to bash religion.

I've been a fan of Black's stand up comedy for many years and love watching him on The Daily Show. He tackles more serious/controversial topics like politics and religion, and in spite of his heavy cursing (which doesn't bother me but might be a deal-breaker for some) provides smart comedy. I think Black is a very intelligent person. In Me of Little Faith, he tells stories of his childhood and takes on gurus and televangelists.

I also read Black's I'm Dreaming of a Black Christmas but didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I was entertained by Me of Little Faith. Books written by comedians tend to be hit or miss for me. Even within this book, I didn't find the play at the end very funny. Although I understand the premise, it didn't make me laugh. Listening to the audiobook didn't help. You're not missing anything if you skip it.

However, I recommend choosing the audiobook in this case (and in general when it's a book written by a comedian) because I don't know that Black's voice would come across otherwise.

Anecdote for those infuriated by religion

I was grew up under the psychotic, twisted, condescending cult that is evangelical Christianity and grew to passionately loath it with every fiber of my being, that AND I live in a HIGHLY conservative area of TX. This book gives me a reason to laugh about something that infuriates me, as it seems to be shoved in my face every day.

The ending lost me...again, still fun though!

I dunno why but Lewis Black has to just go off the edge at the end of his books. Same as with the first one, this one was OK and funny with plenty of good social commentary. But then he seems to get his hands on some bad acid for the last five minutes. Sadly this leaves such a bad aftertaste the whole book is just soured.

Someone just needs to check Black at the exit before he wrecks the next audiobook.

Still I really recommend this one if you are a Lewis Black fan. It's a but more introspective and serious but there is plenty of what makes us all enjoy the man's musings.

Totally awesome overall, but you can hear how strained his voice is at the end. Also, no one reads Lewis Black's books better than Lewis Black!
