Publisher's summary

A collection of outrageous stories by the standup comic, TV host, and inspiration for the movie National Lampoon's Van Wilder

Bert Kreischer doesn't know how to say "no." If he did, he wouldn't have gotten himself mixed up with a group of Russian mobsters on a class trip to Moscow, earning him his nickname: "The Machine." He wouldn't have wrestled with a bear or swum with sharks on national television. He wouldn't have (possibly) smoked PCP with a star of Saturday Night Live. And he wouldn't have been named the Number One Partier in the Nation by Rolling Stone, inspired the movie National Lampoon's Van Wilder, or performed standup to sellout crowds across the country.

The stories Kreischer shares in Life of the Party are a guidebook on how not to grow up. From his fraternity days at Florida State University, to his rise as a standup, to his marriage and first brushes with fatherhood, Kreischer shows you a path that may not lead you to maturity or personal growth. But it will lead you to a shitload of fun.

Critic reviews

“The author's affability and self-deprecation only add to his charm, and the result is a genuinely hilarious look at life in the fast lane.” —Publisher's Weekly

“Bert Kreischer is one of the great American wild men. A gonzo warrior driven not by cynicism or a desire to reveal dark truths but instead by a deep, almost essential, need to have a good time--no matter what. His stories track the trials and tribulations of a big-hearted dude trying to fit in, help out, party and find himself. After all is said and done we arrive with him at the true humility of joy.” —Marc Maron, New York Times bestselling author of Attempting Normal

“Bert Kreischer is as fearless on the page as he is on the stage. Bert admits things in Life of the Party that most of us wouldn't even admit to ourselves. Open to page one and let Bert Kreischer take you on the magical ride. You'll laugh out loud frequently, feel uncomfortable occasionally, and even feel a little warm and fuzzy at the inner warmth of this perpetual man-child--but you will always, always be entertained.” —Mick Foley, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Foley is Good

a little emotions snuck in.

this book was great. the audio version even better because of the style of Burt's reading. he even gets a little emotional tugging in towards the end of the book. that was something I did not expect and was not prepared for. hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

loved it

it was as good as i hoped. bert telling his stories without an crowd drowning out his voice is awesome. the details of the stories are more rich than what can be offered on stage in a set and he seems less hammered so he isnt struggling throught giggles to get his words out. id recomend it to anyone.

What made the experience of listening to Life of the Party the most enjoyable?

Even if you don't know Bert from his multiple TV shows or Podcast and appearances you will surely get a kick out of his stories. Bert has lived a wonderfully chaotic life where his search for acceptance, a good time and often just ignorance (meant in the best way) have put him into situations that are usually crazy, often hilarious and genuinely interesting.

What other book might you compare Life of the Party to and why?

I dont read or listen to many [audio] books but I could compare this slighty to Carollas book in that the story telling is quite well done.

What about Bert Kreischer’s performance did you like?

Bert gets into the stories, riffs a little and of course his signature laugh

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"Usually crazy, often hilarious, genuinely interesting"

Any additional comments?

Bert is not only a great story teller but also a great guy. Check out his podcast, the Bertcast you shant be disappointed people.
