    "Gentle Comedy for Sunday Afternoons"

Miles Jupp uses his posh-ness to his advantage to bring some gentle humour to this novel BBC radio series. Kitsch characters, absurd plots and adorably excitable narration make this perfect Sunday afternoon listening - preferably when preparing a roast. Would definitely recommend a listen, though I perhaps wouldn't try any of the recipes featured at home...

    "Loved it!"

I heard this on the radio and couldn't wait for it to be released.
Miles Jupp and Justin Edwards are a perfect couple and the setting of cookery writer just works so well. The recipes that are thrown in are a delight and the use of language is just divine.
I love Miles Jupp anyway, I think he is so funny, and Justin Edwards ((Newsjack, the consultants) is excellent

    "Very entertaining"

Listened to while knitting on a sunny afternoon in the garden

Funny and entertaining. The reader Miles Jupp has a entertaining voice, not one where you would fall asleep to like some of the readers I have listened to.

Lots of recipes and I kept having to bookmark and making a note of the recipes

Yes I would listen to another Miles Jupp and now looking through Audible for another of his.

    "Very entertaining!"

I bought this because I enjoy radio plays. The story is very entertaining and there are a number of laugh out loud moments with numerous chuckles throughout. I initially listened to all four episodes in one sitting, However, since then, I have listened to individual episodes one at a time. I'm still catching up with all the jokes!

    Story
    "Dull, Never Even Smiled"

Rave reviews from other listeners. Gave it a go. Just boring. Reminds me of 'Terry and June' kind of watery sit-coms, jumpers, sofas. Won't scare the horses nor make 'em laugh neither. Not that I require savage satire, cruel slapstick or radical stand-up to raise a smile. The same day I listened to this I listened to the first of David Niven's autobiographies and Peter Ustinov in an interview recorded when he was 80. That is genial, gentle, witty humour and I smiled and laughed a lot. I appreciate wry, character-driven humour. But there has to be character to drive humour not just a collection of thinly drawn stereotypes as in Miles Jupp's offering. And if your autobiography does not supply the plot then you need a creative imagination to invent one. Jupp gives neither character nor plot and what does that leave? Do you think I am being harsh? Not fair to compare Jupp with Niven or Ustinov? I suppose so. It is like comparing a plastic toy from a Christmas cracker and a Greek bronze rescued from the Mediterranean sea, they involve a whole other level of aspiration and achievement. If you like plastic cracker toys you might like Jupp. If you aspire to something of greater merit, I warmly recommend Niven and Ustinov.

Returning it and chosing something else.
