Publisher's summary

What The Daily Show is to evening news, The Colbert Report is to personality-driven pundit shows. Stephen Colbert brings his sarcastic charm to a half-hour report, tackling the important issues of the day and telling his guests why their opinions are just plain wrong. Stephen stands for "truthiness" and his American right to copyright that word and claim ownership of it.

The author describes his audiobook as a simple audiobook from a simple mind: Stephen Colbert's. In plain conversational language, not to mention the occasional grunt and/or whistle, Stephen explains his take on the most pressing concerns of our culture: faith, family...hygiene.

Why now? Stephen fears America has lost its balls and he hopes to re-ballify us...even the ladies. Ladies can have balls: lady-balls too. Stephen likes to call those "Thatchers". Stephen will show how he got his mammoth swinging sack with tales of courage and vital documents from his own life, including the Mother's Day card he made at age six, disputed credit-card bills, and putt-putt score cards - all the major milestones.

Smartest Book Ever

Ironic tongue in cheek. If you don’t try to politicize the book you might just enjoy it. Totally politically incorrect, and made to be that way. Probably only smart funny people will get it. So if you’re funny but not smart, don’t bother.

Loved this listen!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it was so funny, I was very careful to go back if I missed even a few words. Had me laughing.

What does Stephen Colbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This is best listened to because you get to hear it read by the author, and for all those who like Stephen Colbert, as I do, it is treat, its like a personal performance of the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but unfortunately, I did not have the time.

Any additional comments?

Loved it!!!

Stephen has taken the torch from Stewart!

Amazing book. Stephen and his writing staff are brillantly entertaining. I've listened to this a-book three times so far. The great thing about this audio book is how well it complements the hardcover. Each having their own uniqueness.

Pretty good.

It was pretty good, funny at times. Didn't keep me laughing non stop like the Colbert Report. Maybe the expressions or images get lost in translation. It didn't seem like fiction or non fiction. A lot of the same humor if you listen to the whole thing in one sitting but if you're a fan of Colbert, you'll like it.

America's destination

News is often dated as close as yesterday, however somethings never change. The out of world perspective lends a neat thought provoking response to the reader. The shock value of the dialog makes this a PG 14 rated parental guidance required. If you can adapt to the in your face advertisements at increased volume you can hear all the way to the frig' you will enjoy the read.

Love it or hate it , no middle.

Rarely do I read reviews with so bimodal a distribution of reviews and stars.

Love it or hate it.

I laughed till I hurt.
My wife finds it silly/offensive.

If you like the Colbert Repor' you will find it a lively dose of Steve in a different method of delivery.

If you find Steve Colbert's style of irreverence, cynicism, disrespect for any and everything funny buy it and enjoy and laugh. The art of laughing at ourselves, our society and our way of life is his forte.

If you find Mr. Colbert's style of humor tasteless or tiring or too cynical move on and keep shopping.

I loved it.

Scuba Lessons

2 of my friends and I listened to this book while we drove to Scuba lessons. As much fun as the scuba lessons were, we had the drive to look forward to also. Of course I'm the hero since I paid for it. If I have any complaint: there is just not enough Colbert on Audible. More Colbert, Sarah Silverman, and Jon Stewart. If you like this get the interviews on Fresh Aire with Terry Gross. I don't know why I wrote if you like this... you will like this as the laughter puts you in tears.

I Am America! (And So Can You!)

As soon as I heard Colbert on NPR promoting his new book I downloaded it. I didn't even look at the price. I especially like that Stephen is the one that's narrating. It really gets his tone across. I think it's got an advantage over an actual book. It's very funny! I laughed, I cried, I begged for more! If there was more people like this the world would be a better place. Thank you Stephen!

okay read

I laugh out loud when I watch his TV program and I was expecting the same level of humor in the book. It was funny, but it was not the political humor that I was hoping for.
