Publisher's summary

God Is Disappointed in You is for people who would like to read the Bible...if it would just cut to the chase. Stripped of its arcane language and interminable passages, every book of the Bible is condensed down to its core message, in no more than a few pages each.

Written by Mark Russell with cartoons by New Yorker cartoonist Shannon Wheeler, God Is Disappointed in You is a frequently hilarious, often shocking, but always accurate retelling of the Bible, including the parts selectively left out by Sunday School teachers and church sermons.

Irreverent yet faithful, this book is a must-listen for anyone who wants to see past the fog of religious agendas and cultural debates to discover what the Bible really says.

pretty good translation

First let me say I grew up in the church and while I dont go now I think the writers did a good job here.
Some chapters did deserve to be fleshed out more but others had me laughing and loving it.
This book is not for the easily offended. There is profanity and he gets pretty real about stuff but its worth the read.

Absolute favorite book - humorous yet serious

Trifecta of talent: Mark Russell as an author, Shannon Wheeler as illustrator, and James Urbaniak as narrator! Then again I could listen to a menu read by Urbaniak.

Very well done book that walks through the Bible and highlights the most thought provoking and salient aspects which have either informed western culture or unknown to most people that are familiar with the Bible. Although humorous the author isn’t flippant or demeaning, but rather calls out excellent parts of biblical lore and how they would be interpreted today.

I’ve listened to this book easily 10 times straight through, along with its sister book Apocrypha Now, and love each reading. Highly, highly recommend!!

Good

Good listen and funny....the letters from Paul dragged on forever. Listened to it on a road trip and it made my drive shorter.

Forever thankful for this version of the Bible

Obviously, the Bible is a subject that can cause lots of controversy. I have never been able to get through Genesis in my reading. This version is amazing; I love the author's use of modern terms to break down what everything means in the way I could understand. I found myself laughing and not able to stop listening to go to sleep.

Brilliant. Easy to understand and entering. Always wanted to read the bible from front to back, but this was an impossible task. Written in modern language and easy to understand.

Informative and Fun in an Abbreviated Way

Informative and Fun in an Abbreviated Way. Prompted me many times to look up the original passages in the bible.

Proved the common opinion that the fastest way to become atheist is to read the bible.

Amazingly hilarious and truthful

This book was just the perfect way to better understand the Bible. The narrator was so good and hilarious! Never thought the Bible was this juicy, scandalous, and super funny.
