Publisher's summary

Let's be honest - nobody has more fun than atheists. Don’t believe it? Well, consider this: For nonbelievers, every day you’re alive is a day to celebrate! And no one celebrates life to the fullest like Penn Jillette - the larger, louder half of legendary magic duo Penn & Teller - whose spectacularly witty and sharply observant essays in Every Day Is an Atheist Holiday! will entertain zealots and skeptics alike.

Whether he's contemplating the possibility of life after death, deconstructing popular Christmas carols, or just calling bullsh*t on Donald Trump's apprentice training, Jillette does not fail to shock and delight his fans. And as ever, underneath these rollicking rants lie a deeply personal philosophy and a generous spirit, which find joy and meaning in family, and peace in the simple beauty of the everyday.

Every Day Is an Atheist Holiday! is a hysterical affirmation of life's magic from one of the most distinctly perceptive and provocative humorists writing today.

Sunday School listeners will love this.

Would you consider the audio edition of Every Day is an Atheist Holiday! to be better than the print version?

Yes, Penn knows what he wants emphasis on, and simply reading it won't get things across the way he does.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

How personal he is about everything. Penn has a style of talking, shooting straight, and putting things together about his thoughts. He makes sure to phrase things in specific ways, and breaks them down so that you get why he won't say a certain phrase like everyone else does.

Any additional comments?

Expect cursing, If you're a fan of Penn you should have an idea of what you are going to be getting into with this.

If you already like Penn Jillette...

If you could sum up Every Day is an Atheist Holiday! in three words, what would they be?

More a collection of stories than a book about Holidays. If you have already read (or listened to) a book by Penn Jillette and liked it you will most likely also like this book.

If you are new to Penn Jillette check out some of his other work you can access for free. He does a weekly podcast called "Penn's Sunday School". After listening to one episode of that, if you enjoyed it you will most likely enjoy this as well.

The book is read by the author and is enjoyable to listen to.

Yes, he curses

What did you love best about Every Day is an Atheist Holiday!?

Another reviewer complained about Penn's cursing. Unless you were completely unfamiliar with his style, it should come as no surprise. If you enjoyed his other works, you will enjoy this one as well. Buy with confidence if your ears can handle bad words.

more of a mini bio, but interesting

What did you love best about Every Day is an Atheist Holiday!?

I love that he is taking a word [atheist] that was meant to be derogative and embracing it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Every Day is an Atheist Holiday!?

"come on baby, you can take all of me" [in a sleazy spanish accent]

But what I can't get out of my mind is the standoff between Penn and Hitchens. Hitch was spot on with his assessment of Penn's "religious" views on alcohol.

==HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!== Disney

Have you listened to any of Penn Jillette’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

consistent

If you could give Every Day is an Atheist Holiday! a new subtitle, what would it be?

"Family" or "my heart to heart with Clay Akin"

Any additional comments?

It's a book filled with digressions that to an extent are not needed to support the thesis of the book and yet are at times entertaining. Penn, and every other libertarian need to stop making the embarrassingly ignorant catchphrase "at gunpoint". They are and he is referencing taxes of course and the ultimate use of force but fail to realize that their proposed alternative system also requires force "at gunpoint".

Not For the Faint of Heart, Heart Warming Anecdote

Often dirty, often touching, but always interesting anecdotes from Penn's life. If you love Penn Jillette, if you love Atheist philosophy or stories about the interesting life of a humble, honest, but still flawed human being this book is for you. If you're easily offended by inappropriate actions or thinking stay far, far away. The only writer on the subject of Atheism I enjoy more than Penn is Christopher Hitchens himself, and like Mr. Hitchens' God is Not Great, Penn narrates this work himself lending the emotion and cadence that he intended while penning the novel.

Entertaining, thoughtful and enlightening

Would you listen to Every Day is an Atheist Holiday! again? Why?

Yes. This is definitely a book you will want to read and reread. If only for his perspective on death. I was brought to tears with the relief of understanding death in that way. Penn has a way of speaking about things that has such clarity and realness. As an atheist I appreciate getting to hear another atheist's thoughts and feelings and life experiences. He really fills a gap in the atheist community by opening up as a "normal" person (Okay. I know he's far from average, being famous and rich but he doesn't come across that way and it hasn't gone to his head). I find myself thinking on the stories that he shared in this and his previous book frequently and I'm sure I'll be reading both over and over. I highly recommend his books and his podcast!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Penn, of course!

Any additional comments?

I would love to have the paper copy to see the pictures but I loved hearing his description of them. It added another personal dimension to the story.

Perfect

I hate the word perfect, but it really does fit. The best i could do to be critical would be to complain that the audio book doesn't have the pictures that he describes.

an enlightening super-natural experience

Happy Birthday! , Happy Birthday!, Happy Birthday!, to all you believers out there this book could change your life. are you ready to hear the truth? Unlike other books that you may have read, this one seems to be based in fact and when the details get a little fuzzy the author points them out himself
