Publisher's summary

Let's be honest - nobody has more fun than atheists. Don’t believe it? Well, consider this: For nonbelievers, every day you’re alive is a day to celebrate! And no one celebrates life to the fullest like Penn Jillette - the larger, louder half of legendary magic duo Penn & Teller - whose spectacularly witty and sharply observant essays in Every Day Is an Atheist Holiday! will entertain zealots and skeptics alike.

Whether he's contemplating the possibility of life after death, deconstructing popular Christmas carols, or just calling bullsh*t on Donald Trump's apprentice training, Jillette does not fail to shock and delight his fans. And as ever, underneath these rollicking rants lie a deeply personal philosophy and a generous spirit, which find joy and meaning in family, and peace in the simple beauty of the everyday.

Every Day Is an Atheist Holiday! is a hysterical affirmation of life's magic from one of the most distinctly perceptive and provocative humorists writing today.

Amazing!

Would you listen to Every Day is an Atheist Holiday! again? Why?

Absolutely! I've listened to it twice already and will continue to listen to it over and over again. Penn could read the phone book and I would be interested.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The stories. The way Penn tells about his life, be it good or bad, is really compelling.

What does Penn Jillette bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

HIS voice. I love listening to a book read by the author. They know what to punctuate and what to leave alone. It's the best experience if you can find it.

Good book, little scattered but overall enjoyable

This is another great bunch of musings by penn jillete about life, religion and events that shaped him as a person. the stories within are of a much more personal nature than his previous book god no, and while i think i enjoyed god no a little better this is definitly a great read by any definition and listening to penn read it gives it a whole other level of intimacy. highly recomended

Just as good as God, No!

If you could sum up Every Day is an Atheist Holiday! in three words, what would they be?

Totally. Fu*****. Awesome.

What did you like best about this story?

You know how sometimes when an author writes a sequil to a series it just doesnt live up to how maazing the first book was? Well that is NOT the case here! Penn knocked it out of the park again and I was hanging on every word.

Penn does it again

A great performance and a very easy listen if the language doesn't offend you. But he does go off the deep end sometimes. In one place he seems to think that Dr. Martin Luther King was accepting of atheists. Then later he says his friends say President Obama is an atheist but he is keeping it a secret. From there he blames Obama for being a silent atheist. He should be blaming his friends for making stuff up.
But Jillette is best at being polemical, not political. Liberalism, not libertarianism. Skeptical, not cynical. Well, that might all seem like cheap shots. But, hey, I like Penn and I liked this book. It's not quite as good as "God, No!" but then sequels almost never are.

A great book for any holiday of the week

Fun and very funny book. If you are religious and easily offended stay clear. But judging bye the fact your reading reviews I highly doubt that is the case. I mix of funny stories and interesting insight. I would definitely recommend this book.

Telling it like it is...

Any additional comments?

It's pretty much like listening to Penn's Sunday School podcast. If you are a fan of Penn or Penn&Teller you are going to enjoy this book. Oh, and it will help if you are a hardcore atheist and skeptic.

Another great book of stories of Pen's adventures

What made the experience of listening to Every Day is an Atheist Holiday! the most enjoyable?

Penn is a very good speaker, he is funny and does very well, especially reading his own words.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Penn, of course.

What does Penn Jillette bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He reads it as he wrote it, so there isn't any question of what parts are meant to be read sarcastically.

If you could give Every Day is an Atheist Holiday! a new subtitle, what would it be?

Tales of the Magical Atheist. ;)

Any additional comments?

A great book all around. Be aware there is a lot of foul language, as that is how Penn talks. If you have no idea about his style of talking or what this book is like, i recommend checking out his podcast, it's essentially the same thing but with different topics and in shorter form. So if you like "Penn's Sunday School" then you'll love this!

More great stories from Penn!

In this book he uses the various seasonal holidays to tell tales about his life and connect them to whichever holiday he now does not celebrate. There's Christmas, of course, but also Columbus Day, and Martin Luther King's birthday. I have to admit, traveling through Penn's profane views, he still makes a great case for atheism, but he does it with humor and insight. It's a fun book and well worth reading, even if you are not an atheist!
