With this recording, taped before a delirious sold out audience at Carnegie Hall, you are there as David Sedaris performs new stories from his upcoming book. Why we think it's Essential: There is no funnier way to soak in David Sedaris' humor than through his own voice. This stand-up show encompasses the best tales from his many book collections, and, told in David's hilariously deadpan whine, this is the essential Sedaris, for old fans or newbies alike. —Chris Doheny

What the Critics Say

  • Audie Award Winner, Humor, 2004

"Sedaris's material (Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day) is never funnier than when he's reading it himself." (AudioFile)
"David Sedaris Live at Carnegie Hall is a rollicking comedic masterpiece...this recording will deservedly take its rightful place among the best comedy albums of our time." (AudiobooksTODAY.com)
"As uproarious as Sedaris is on the page, he's even funnier reading his wickedly jaundiced reflections. With brilliant deadpan timing, Sedaris is a charm." (Publishers Weekly)

    "funny!!"

I enjoyed this book, at least most of it. The best part was the free sample and it was hard to live up to. I would have rather spent the 12 bucks on a 10 hour book. Enjoy the sample!

    "He does it again!"

I was driving cross country for Thanksgiving, so I decided to put on some David Sedaris. What a horrible idea. I was laughing so hard I began tearing up. I had to pull over to the side of the road before I caused an accident.
My point is David Sedaris is just amazing, but listening to his audio book and driving is the equivalent to having four shots of whiskey and then hopping in behind the wheel. So just don't do it! Listen him at home or in the gym. Just not while you are driving.

    "Extreme Caution Urged"

Do not, under any circumstances, play this download while driving. I had to pull to the side of the interstate when my eyes teared up from laughing.

I love books! They have always added so much to my world. Between being a busy mom, having a demanding career, and keeping my household running smoothly, I have zero free time to just sit and read a book. Audible allows me to keep up with my reading (or "reading") while I'm working or driving or cooking or cleaning the house. I enjoy that so much - I love Audible!

    "PERFECT . . ."

David Sedaris is a comic genius. I had heard some of the material before (in one of his books), but the audience reactions further heightened the enjoyment. This audio presentation had me laughing for days - I highly recommend it!

"David Sedaris live at Carnegie Hall"

great stories and its even better live, he leaves time to laugh out loud. Dutch St Nicholas who travels with six to eight black men and lives in spain is included in this wonderful storytelling.

    "A great Sedaris Primer"

Probably the funniest writing/reading there is to have by Sedaris. Such a talented boy. And the stories/essays are not just funny but underpinned with such a kindness and...commonality, I guess, that you will be touched as well as laughing your head off. "You'll laugh, you'll cry!" (It's true!)

    "David Sedaris Rocks!"

I've been a fan of Sedaris for a few years now. I was first introduced to his unique writing and comedy on NPR's "This American Life." He is brilliant, and this recording is awesome. I highly recommend it, espeically if you're a Sedaris fan.

    "Love this one!!!!!"

I have listened and listened and listened to this offering. I laugh, until tears come, every time I hear the story about Danish Christmas traditions - 'Santa didn't USED to be anything' and the explanation of Danish parents to prepare their children for what they need to do prior to Santa's arrival........this was my first introduction to David Sedaris and I am HOOKED!!! "We love you, Lisa!!!!" from the parrot sends me into fits of giggles - difficult when commuting!!!!!!!
