A Room of One's Own è un saggio della celebre autrice inglese Virginia Woolf. Fu pubblicato nel 1929 e si è basato su due conferenze tenute a ai due college femminili di Newnham e Girton, dell'Università di Cambridge, nel 1928. Il saggio, scorrevole e brillante, ripercorre la storia della scrittura nelle donne, e la storia delle donne, e la storia della scrittura. Pertanto è rivolto, oltre che alle donne, anche a tutti coloro che vogliono scrivere.

Il titolo deriva dal fatto che, secondo la Woolf, "una donna deve avere soldi a sufficienza e una stanza tutta per sé per poter scrivere". Ma non solo una donna, aggiunge. La saggista si intreccia con la scrittrice e la poetessa, nel raccontare le due giornate che hanno preceduto la sua conferenza, e il risultato è delicato, divertente, toccante, ardente.

Nessuna donna o nessun uomo può rimanere indifferente alle sue parole, ancora oggi, a distanza di “più di un paio di anni da quando è stato scritto il saggio”, e questo, secondo la tesi della scrittrice stessa, è un segno colto, a posteriori, che la mente di chi ha scritto aveva il dono dell’ “integrità”.
