Thoreau dedicated his life to preserving his freedom as a man and an artist. Walden is a record of his experiment in simple living, describing his basic existence, rich in contemplation of the wonders of nature and the ways of man. I prefer Thoreau

Great introduction to Thoreau and Emerson with snippets from some of their most well known works. Having read more Thoreau I definitely preferred the first part of the the book over that latter, but Emerson also had some great perspectives as well. If you enjoy the first part of this book I’d recommend reading Thoreau’s Waldon.

Quick read and very interesting…highly recommended
