Anne Hathaway is nothing short of masterful in her narration of Baum’s beloved classic. As she guides listeners through the world of munchkins, winkies, and quadlings; witches; and the humbug Oz, Hathaway’s impressive vocal repertoire shines. As narrator, she is lithe yet precise; her voice sounds lilting or emphatic, as the story details require. In character, she is spectacular. Each character is filled with personality - a light-voiced Witch of the North; a brusque soldier at Oz’s palace; a monotone, robot-like Oz; and a usually cheerful and genuine Dorothy. The variety enriches the listening experience. Yes, one may know the story well, but Hathaway makes this recording a definitive one.

One of the best-known stories in American culture, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has stirred the imagination of young and old alike for over 100 years. Academy Award-winning actress Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married, Alice In Wonderland), fresh from filming one of this year’s most anticipated films, The Dark Knight Rises, lends her voice to this uniquely American fairy tale.
Follow the adventures of young Dorothy Gale and her dog Toto as they get swept away into the magical land of Oz , where they encounter characters and places you may remember from the movie – and several more that never made it to the big screen – on an unforgettable journey to the Emerald City.
“It’s such a wonderful book and I was so happy to be a part of bringing it to life”, Ms. Hathaway said. “There are a lot of great voices in it. The more fun you have with it, the sillier and the more free you get with it, the better it is because it’s a story that can handle it. It’s amazing to be able to discover something new about something you feel you know so well.”

I would absolutely recommend this audio book to anyone, young and old! It is a delight to hear Anne Hathaway's voice - she makes the classic story so much fun to listen to.
It is a great story - better than the movie in a lot of ways.
Anny Hathaway really does a great job. She reads as if you were right there with her. She is animated and energized. Yes her pacing is perfect.
Anne Hathaway does a masterful job of reading a beloved classic. Thoroughly enjoyable for all ages!
Classic, captivating classic.
When Dorothy's house landed on the wicked witch and she takes her shoes.
Tough call, all the characters were alive with Anne Hathaway narrating. I'll go with: The Cowardly Lion.
When Oz didn't really give the characters what they wished for but pretended to gift them their request.
Anne Hathaway is a treasure of a narrator. She does an amazing job beathing life into all the characters and the chapters fly by.
Just a small town boy, trying to make it in the big city.
Probably. Anne Hathaway does an unbelievable job narrating. I have much added respect for her skills as a narrator and actor.
She did a particularly great job with the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion!
Believe it or not, I think the film may have actually been an improvement on the novel. A rare happening.
With that said, Hathaway does such a great job narrating that it's definitely worth listening to on Audible. I was smiling and laughing the whole time!
Anne Hathaway does a fantastic job bringing all the characters to life. One of the best I have ever listened to.
No longer at the top .I've got a little older
Scarecrow ,favorite character ? Always has been .haha!
Very realistic and kept you glued to the story
Would have been nice ,but no time.
I'm a librarian, knitter, crochetter... I love audiobooks because I can knit and "read" at the same time.
The narration of Anne Hathaway lead me to the world of Oz without a fail.
Well, it's difficult. I really like the Lion, the Scarecrow and the Tin Men. I mean, they are so sweet and corageous, smart and loving... :) Despite they don't think they aren't.
Well, she really did a great job in performing each caracther and giving them their own voices. It was a really nice experience to listen a classic so well narratade. I hope that she narrate more books in the future.
Yes, it was. Specially because it is a "little" book, and the pace was very good.
I never had the opportunity before to read this book, and now I am really glad that I did. Great story. Amazing narrator!
Hathaway does a respectable job narrating the book, but some of her voice characterizations were so annoying that I had to force myself to finish the book.
This book has been made into one of the greatest movies of all time. The movie improves on the book by leaving out the last part of the book (the China people).
I wasn't sure if the book/story was a waste of my time or if it was just Hathaway's voices that made it seem interminable.
Yes - the kids enjoyed it and we listen to audio books on long trips.
Its different to the movie - as all books are - and I like it better.
I have only seen her movies but I would be inclined to look out for other audio books narrated by her in the future.
Characters have their own voices and she reads to children exceedingly well.
I've never actually read the wonderful wizard of Oz, so thought I'd download it as an audiobook. It turns out I made a fantastic choice, this book is considered a classic for a reason! While different to the popular movie, the story has many similarities. It's a charming story, with enough differences from the movie to make it worth reading/listening to. My enjoyment of this audiobook was greatly increased by Anne Hathaway's narration - she was fantastic! If she narrates any other books I would definitely like to listen to them. Her voices, tone and inclination were perfect, really drawing you into the story. While you could definitely tell it was her reading, that just added to the effect. I strongly recommend downloading this audiobook, I don't think you'll regret it.
