Anne Hathaway is nothing short of masterful in her narration of Baum’s beloved classic. As she guides listeners through the world of munchkins, winkies, and quadlings; witches; and the humbug Oz, Hathaway’s impressive vocal repertoire shines. As narrator, she is lithe yet precise; her voice sounds lilting or emphatic, as the story details require. In character, she is spectacular. Each character is filled with personality - a light-voiced Witch of the North; a brusque soldier at Oz’s palace; a monotone, robot-like Oz; and a usually cheerful and genuine Dorothy. The variety enriches the listening experience. Yes, one may know the story well, but Hathaway makes this recording a definitive one.

“It’s such a wonderful book and I was so happy to be a part of bringing it to life”, Ms. Hathaway said. “There are a lot of great voices in it. The more fun you have with it, the sillier and the more free you get with it, the better it is because it’s a story that can handle it. It’s amazing to be able to discover something new about something you feel you know so well.”

I've always known that Anne Hathaway is a good and versatile actress. But I didn't know that she also could make (very) different voices. A great, funny, addictive and must-listen audiobook for all ages.
100% of the books I read are in audible format. I enjoy reading apocalyptic, WWII, psychology, classics, contemporary and non-fiction.
When I listened to a Sample, I knew that I would buy this audio version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz narrated by Anne Hathaway --- like many people, I've read the books, seen the movie and TV versions, plays - you name it, but this version is the coup de grâce in that the listener gets so much story detail that is forgotten from the days of reading as a child and never really absorbed in the movie version -- so I loved it for that reason. The narration by Ms. Hathaway was the best.
The wizard of oz story is largely thought of as what is portrayed in the movie... The book is much more.
The surprise of the difference between the book and the classic movie
I love the way Anne Hathaway takes an ordinary fairy tale story and brings about a wonderful attitude giving the listener a myriad of differnt voices to enjoy the charachters with.
Anne Hathaway, without question! She is a wonderful narrator. She should do it more often. My Grandson just loves this book choosing to listen to it over any other book most every night.
The entire book is very entertaining, but again I have to say that although it's a great read, and it is, Anne Hathaway brings something very special to the party when she reads. She's not just reading. She's acting it out. It's nearly a dramatization.
No. I haven't. This one is magnificent though. As I've said.
You won't, you can't regret getting this book and listening to it. Your children or Grandchildren will love it. They'll want to give it a listen more than once.
So much fun to listen to, and it was free! Can't get much better than that!
I haven't read the print version, but always meant to. Anne's narration made it so very special! I laughed, I cried.
Her enthusiasm for the characters really comes through.
Yes. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I laughed AND cried! And was so sorry when it ended.
Most of us know this story, but Ms. Hathaway did a good job of pulling me into the originial story, which is very different from the movie.
Get this audiobook for Anne Hathaway's performance alone. She had voices for each of the characters that made it seem like this was a multi-actor performance. I felt like I was a kid listening to a wonderful bedtime story.
