Anne Hathaway is nothing short of masterful in her narration of Baum’s beloved classic. As she guides listeners through the world of munchkins, winkies, and quadlings; witches; and the humbug Oz, Hathaway’s impressive vocal repertoire shines. As narrator, she is lithe yet precise; her voice sounds lilting or emphatic, as the story details require. In character, she is spectacular. Each character is filled with personality - a light-voiced Witch of the North; a brusque soldier at Oz’s palace; a monotone, robot-like Oz; and a usually cheerful and genuine Dorothy. The variety enriches the listening experience. Yes, one may know the story well, but Hathaway makes this recording a definitive one.

“It’s such a wonderful book and I was so happy to be a part of bringing it to life”, Ms. Hathaway said. “There are a lot of great voices in it. The more fun you have with it, the sillier and the more free you get with it, the better it is because it’s a story that can handle it. It’s amazing to be able to discover something new about something you feel you know so well.”

Anne Hathaway's voicework. She embodies the characters with their own distinct voice and personality. It was extremely entertaining and brought the story to life.
When they meet the Wizard. Anne gives him a unique voice. My sons loved listening to her.
I smiled a lot and even laughed out loud as I listened with my sons (11, 10 & 9). It was in watching their wonderment that I truly experienced the story all over again.
Anne Hathaway does a very good job of reading and performing the story. It may be a little too dark for very young children. However for older children and adults it offers a very good listen. However, don't expect the storyline from the movie or even from Maguire's WICKED book, if you do you will be disappointed. The characters you know are all there but they are different and the plot is different. I would recommend the story to anyone who want's a different take on the Wizard of Oz story.
Say something about yourself!
Familiar story but great reading by Hathaway keeps listeners engaged!
Hathaway keeps the listeners (mainly my children, but me too!) engaged. Our favorite parts of the story, thanks to Hathaway's characterization of each character, are the stork's rescue of the Scarecrow in the river and the indignant Queen of the Field Mice as she responds to the Tin Man's unintentionally demeaning response to her after he saves her life. My daughter could not help but keep rewinding those parts to listen to it over and over again -- giggling and laughing at Hathaway's excellent creation of these characters' voices. Hathaway's performance made revisiting this book a delight.
Please record more books, Anne Hathaway!
Fun, entertaining, enjoyable
Anne did an awesome job with the characters, it was very entertaining!
True to the story by L. Frank Baum, as well as the TV movie.
What do you expect? We've all seen the movie. Now hear what you missed. Anne does a great job!
Her tone gave this a fairy tale feel that I think might keep younger kids entertained.
The Oracle Reviews
I never got to read this story growing up and didn't want my children to miss out, so when i saw that Anne Hathaway was the narrator I grabed it. I decided to listen it and was drawn in by Anne's performance. She broughtlife to all the characters in the world of OZ and new life to this the story.
Its a childs story that can be enjoyed by an adult with a young heart.
She is a supreme actress with great talent. I loved her performance.
I consider this stroy to be a classic. I find that when a classic like this is narrated by an actor or group of actors it adds new life to a story. I wish more classics were given the opportunity to have new life.
I'm not usually a big fan of Anne Hathaway but honestly this was one of the best audible narratives I've heard. She was fabulous. The story was not the same as the old movie. It was much better. No matter what your age you'll like it.
Great story, loved her different voices !
Listened to this with my 5 year old son and he loved it :)
No favorites; Ms Hathaway made them all come alive.
No favorite; many good, very good scenes.
Ms. Hathaway's quirky voices made this an enjoyable listen; the great story made made it easy.
Anne Hathaway does a great job of bringing this story to life. She uses different voices to depict the characters and I looked forward to my next instalment each day. The story is good, and there are some variations from the film which is interesting. I will definitely be looking for other books read by Anne Hathaway. My only complaint is I wish it was longer!!!
I guess everybody knows the story about Dorothy and Toto. If not from the movie with Ms. Garland then from reading the story by L. Frank Baum. But hearing it being narrated by Anne Hathaway is another dimension. I loved how she changes her voice to portrait the different characters. The story came to life again for me. I never read the sequels to the book, but this has prompted me to start doing so. I recommend this audiobook to anyone who loves a good story. Being Dutch I also recommend this audiobook to other Dutch people who love to read and hear stories in English.
"Good reading of a classic"
This is very well read by Anne Hathaway, engaging for the children who listened with wrapt attention. It is a familiar tale to most British children, although some of the scenes are quite frightening for young ones (much as the film is). The story is more elaborate than the film, and has an extended coda.
"The great world of Oz"
Always been very found of the Wizard of Oz collection and must say this audible version is very good. Anne Hathaway gives life to this world and characters and her reading is very good.
I enjoyed this a great version for kids to listen to!
"wonderful wizard of OZ"
It was a great book, where Dorothy and the others travel to OZ to find their true happiness, listen to find out if their wishes come true...!
"a true classic read by a classy lady"
i remember that as a child, TWOO was one of the first books i read cover to cover. it was a rainy Saturday, and i curled in the corner of my parents 70s orange sofa. much later i had a crush on Anne Hathaway. so this performance is the best of all worlds. pure joy.
