Anne Hathaway is nothing short of masterful in her narration of Baum’s beloved classic. As she guides listeners through the world of munchkins, winkies, and quadlings; witches; and the humbug Oz, Hathaway’s impressive vocal repertoire shines. As narrator, she is lithe yet precise; her voice sounds lilting or emphatic, as the story details require. In character, she is spectacular. Each character is filled with personality - a light-voiced Witch of the North; a brusque soldier at Oz’s palace; a monotone, robot-like Oz; and a usually cheerful and genuine Dorothy. The variety enriches the listening experience. Yes, one may know the story well, but Hathaway makes this recording a definitive one.

One of the best-known stories in American culture, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has stirred the imagination of young and old alike for over 100 years. “It’s such a wonderful book and I was so happy to be a part of bringing it to life”, Ms. Hathaway said. “There are a lot of great voices in it. The more fun you have with it, the sillier and the more free you get with it, the better it is because it’s a story that can handle it. It’s amazing to be able to discover something new about something you feel you know so well.”

Yes, I would have to agree and say that the audio version is better than the print version. The print is obviously a classic but the audio form really gives this story life. This edition of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is amazing.
There is something about the oblivious personality of the scarecrow that has made this character my favorite. He believes he has no brains, yet he constantly thinks of solutions for many of the issues the group encounters. Anne Hathaway does a great job giving each character a voice. If I had to select a character based on the vocal performance I would still select the scarecrow although the lion is a close second.
Anne Hathaway did a wonderful job as the narrator. She was able to bring a number of characters to life and as you listen you can hear that each character has a distinct voice. This is a wonderful performance and very entertaining.
I forgot why the winged monkeys are slaves to the golden cap. It is a shame that creatures that were once carefree are now under the spell of this magical cap.
Anne Hathaway did a great job! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
Yes. Each one case its merits. In this case Anne's performance is the game changer.
I am not a fantasy/fiction reader. However I value this book on the subtle moral values it pushes to children. In a day and age where parents do not devote much quality time, children are nannied, exposed to various hedonistic influences the need for quality and wholesome content cannot be overelaborated.
Voice Acting. You can imagine the world but it is entirely different to behold a class act. Her reading style is highly topical and engaging.
None. But the book is a classic and needs no introduction. It is a allegory and hence makes you reflect at times. It is fun overall but not extreme.
Anne you need to read much more as from a social cause perspective. Engaging voice acting which the whole family enjoys is a great way to connect and fans.
I love how quiet my car gets when I turn on this audiobook. My 3.5 year old and 7 month old are immediately hushed by Anne Hathaway's fantastic narration.
Towards the end of the book, the number of characters in each scene reaches a crescendo and Anne Hathaway does an amazing job of juggling her voice so that even young children know exactly who is speaking.
My daughter loves the moment that Dorothy wakes up in Oz.
This book has inspired me to buy more children's audiobooks.
Anne Hathaway did an amazing job on the voices of the characters. She really brought the performance to life!
My only other exposure to this story was the TV movie. I enjoyed the reading immensely, and also seeing which parts had been changed in the movie. It definitely qualifies as a children's story in my opinion, however, so I was okay that the book wasn't any lengthier than it was.
He is right on with this fantasey about OZ. This book is 100 years old
Anne Hathaway narration of this book was delightful.
This is a national treasure. I would leave it just the way it is.
I focus on fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, science, history, politics and read a lot. I try to review everything I read.
The narration of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was excellent. I had not read this before but, of course, had seen the movie many times. Although the story is a classic I did not find the material in the book that was not in the movie compelling. There were additional adventures and a different ending, but I found the full story a little repetitive. If you know you like the full story, or just want to hear the full reading, this is the version to choose.
Audio books have opened my world so much. I have been a member for a few years and i plan on being a member for many more years <3
I would recommend this book to friends. In fact i already have :)
The most memorable moment was when the tin ax man was telling how he became the tin man.
I cant pick just one. She did each voice so well. Each character came to life. It was as if they were right there talking.
At first i thought i wasnt going to like this book. i thought that it was more of a kid book. But wow I was shocked. I enjoyed it very much.
Get this book. You will like it.
I had never read the books but only saw the movie. Both myself and my six year old daughter. At first she didn't care for it because it didn't follow the movie, but then I explained how the book is the "real" story and the movie is the "Hollywood version" of it. She then listened with new ears and loved the true story and cannot wait for the next books and the new adventures!
I had no idea there was so much more to the story of the Wizard of Oz than what cinema brought us. I grew up watching the movie on tv my whole life but never read the original. I was captivated by the beautiful job Anne Hathaway did...so much more than a narration! The personalities that she performed for each character painted such a beautiful illustration of the book. I loved the story and the performance.
I like sci-fi and fantasy as well as an occasional good mystery.
As a classic this story ranks up towards the top. I really enjoyed the spirit Ms. Hathaway brought the reading.
I find that I get more out of listening to books than reading them. It allows my mind to think about what is happening while it was being read. Plus this was a great road trip book.
I would have loved to listen to this book all at once. Unfortunately the drive wasn't long enough.
I would recommend this to any listening with young children.
