The first novel in Trollope’s Chronicles of Barsetshire, The Warden is a compassionate portrait of the gentle, thoughtful warden and precentor of Barchester Cathedral, Mr. Septimus Harding.
Loved and appreciated by all with whom he works, Harding lives an ordered, regular life in his protected religious environment. Then one day, a young reformer feels he has uncovered a mismanagement of funds and Harding is held to blame. The accusation comes as a shock not only to Harding himself but also to the cathedral community. It then comes to wider notice when the cause is taken up by a national newspaper.
Trollope’s insight into character, his abundant imagination, and his sheer narrative skill are at their peak in The Warden.

The plot, such as it was, proceeded at a glacial pace, particularly in the beginning. Perhaps someone who appreciates the beauty of language as much as or more than the plot.
Something were the pace moves a bit more quickly!
It nooksWhile it is easy to disregard the dominant Christian themes as merely a result of the Medieval culture in which the play was written, it is also argued that author’s intent was to utilize mreligious consciousness to explore the universal human condition. H
I was looking forward to this story based on reviews of Trollope's other books. Very disappointed.
The narrator did a nice job and the dialogue and authors use of language was good.
The first three chapters were a slow start, but eventually the book become more interesting. The authors' sentence structure is excellent and his character interaction was good.
"Clarity of interpretation"
This is an old-fashioned subject and story that takes a little initial patience to engage with. However the moral nuances of character and choice are delicately drawn and thought provoking. Shaw-Parker reads beautifully. His range of voices for the different characters are entertaining without overpowering the main narrative. His clear reading and sensitive interpretation brought the story to life.
