Publisher's summary

Albert Camus' The Stranger is one of the most widely read novels in the world, with millions of copies sold. It stands as perhaps the greatest existentialist tale ever conceived, and is certainly one of the most important and influential books ever produced. Now, for the first time, this revered masterpiece is available as an unabridged audio production.

When a young Algerian named Meursault kills a man, his subsequent imprisonment and trial are puzzling and absurd. The apparently amoral Meursault, who puts little stock in ideas like love and God, seems to be on trial less for his murderous actions, and more for what the authorities believe is his deficient character.

This remarkable translation by Matthew Ward has been considered the definitive English version since its original publication. It unlocks the prose as no other English version has, allowing the listener to soak up the richness of Camus' ideas.

Classic existentialism

This was my first foray into existentialism, and I found it interesting, although it wasn’t what I expected. The sentences were short and plain, so it was easy to follow the story and the narrator.

Always a magical story, this audible did justice

I loved the voice acting, translator’s new rendition, and of course the content itself. This text needs to be taught in high school more :)

Amusing!

A psychopath? A weirdo? A man that floats through life without understanding himself or other humans? All I know is I laughed out loud more times than I probably should have. Enjoyed.

A terrifying perspective

A criminal estranged from the rest of humanity yet with perceptions so very close to the common man of today. The very scary reality of the main character is just a little bit off from how people see and feel about things these days.

Early work targeting social , cultural , responsibilities for which hand needed for the mentally impaired and lack for those impaired with an overload of ignorance The lack for those persons living in that environment, the social logical tools , the reinforcements , l feel bad about the man now judged non worthy , He was not executed. He escaped and he sure did not loose much , Very hard too compress a paradigm shift in a tale needing the fix .I doubt that word was not in evidence , the shame of society allowing the environment for example’s like this person . Audible : this is a very poor review but if your analysis can cook the idea , you eat the particular words into an effort by your fan base and both sides become one side , We are now married both in spirt and love of the good read
