I have read these stories before, more than once, but I have to say that I think I enjoyed them more now when I listened to them. Wayne June brings the story to life in a way that I didn't get when I read it. I think more of the spookiness became clear and the story becomes more alive in audiobook form.

I now long to take part of more from Lovecrafts magnificient world in this form. It's pleasing since I didn't see myself going thorugh them all again but now I will. :)

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

      Of Course!

What other book might you compare The Shadow Over Innsmouth and Dagon to and why?

Boy, that's tough. Who writes like Lovecraft? Deep ones? There have been many afterward, who have followed his genius. If I may, I'll offer up one I found quite fun: a graphic novel written by Neil Gaiman named

Which character – as performed by Wayne June – was your favorite?

All. Wayne June's narration is compelling and dramatic. He's a great story teller.

      Any additional comments?

What's worse than being chased by a mob of zombies? Being chased by a town full of stinky, creepy, fish-frog squiddies!

      "An outstanding narration"

For some reason I like Lovecraft now and then for an absorbing tale. But if you've read him, you know you can get totally tangled up with the never-ending sentences and paragraphs.
But what makes this story so good is the narration. Because the narrator reads the characters in different-sounding voices and accents, you can keep up!
I can honestly say I've never heard such a captivating telling of a story! At first when the deep voice of the narrator came on, I thought I wasn't going to like it. But I think you would agree it is perfect for a Lovecraft tale.

I'm going to see if he narrates "The Mountains of Madness"! Thanks for the entertainment on my nightly walks! I have to remember it's getting dark earlier now and maybe switch to something a little less spooky!

"Wayne June gives a fantastic performance"

Where this presentation stands out is in the narrators work. Wayne June's performance is extraordinary ; His voice is well-suited to the story, and his delivery and characterisation is note-perfect. His reading of the first tale is worth the price of entry alone-------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------The Shadow over Innsmouth (Story: 4*, Narrator 5*)----------------------------------------------.------------------------------------------------------is a tale of one mans exploration of a decrepit town in Jazz Era America, and his discovery that all is not well. On a journey to research his family history, the story's protagonist makes a stop-off at a fishing village, where his fascination with legends and tall tales lead to him learning more than is good for him....Unlike much of HP Lovecrafts other work, holds up remarkably well to the test of time - it is still a well-told tale.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dagon (Story 3*, Narrator 5*) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------is an associated tale, shorter, and less effective. A sailor is shipwrecked and finds himself on an uncharted isle which has a secret dredged up from the depths of the ocean. This story is definitely a weaker tale, and shows its origins as something written for a magazine. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------IN SUMMARY: I'm a Lovecraft fan and I've heard many audio versions of these stories from all sorts of illustrious actors - but Mr June's reading is for me, the DEFINITIVE version of the tales. Excellent.

      "Well read, solid story"

This is an excellent representation of Lovecraft's work. Unfortunately, that includes the fact that Lovecraft often draws the story out so that some of the tension leaches away, and Shadow is an excellent example. A good, chilling story, but the story takes about a half an hour to end, after the dramatic climax. That said, the story is still very good, and is excellently read.

      "Another in a Good Series"

Once again Wayne June makes the transformation of Lovecraft's characters from skeptic to broken - or inspired - believer sound plausible, his dry tone dampening Lovecraft's excesses while underlining his strengths. I especially like his handling of New England dialect.

Utterly awesome. Innsmouth is my favourite Lovecraft story and if you aren't familiar with the escape scene then you need to hear it - horror at it's best!
