Publisher's summary

Featured title on PBS’s The Great American Read in 2018

In the wealthy and vain hedonist Dorian Gray, London painter Basil Hallward has found his muse. Only when the portrait of Dorian begins to age, while the man himself remains untouched by time, do they realize they may have made a deal with the devil.

Oscar Wilde’s only novel takes a witty, philosophical, and harrowing look at our obsession with youth and the price we pay for it.

A Masterpiece

A simply brilliant piece of literature - witty, entertaining and eminently quotable from start to finish.

Good story and performance

Wilde writes an intriguing story about a man who transforms from youthful innocence to complete selfishness and hedonism. He delved into too much details on all the jewels, art, music that Dorian Gray collects in his self-indulgence, slowing down the pace of the book in the middle. On the other hand, Wilde should have gone into more detail as to why Gray lost all his friends and why many in society scorned him by providing a few detailed, specific stories. Overall, a creative and thought provoking storyline about a man who ultimately realizes his inability to redeem himself from the depravity of his soul. The narrator did a great job too.

Great Job!

Narrator is amazing. He really draws you into the world of the story.

The story is an awesome classic. It started a bit slow for me, but quickly I was immersed in it and didn't want to put it down.

Great Story

It can get a bit slow at times but it's a great story! A little flowery but thoughtful. The narrator is terrific. You can just lay around and hear a tale and picture the characters.

A Wilde classic!

Are good and evil inherent or learned, can a person who does terrible things still be good, and is getting old really that bad?

One of my favorite Wildes

I do like a good bedtime story. The classic tale well read by Michael Page, although he does need to decide if he's going to use British or American pronunciations. i. e. The Brits don't say the word "valet" with a French pronunciation as we do in the States. Of the many versions available this is one of the better.
