Publisher's summary

In the cosmopolitan Paris of the 1880s, the new proprietors of the Opera House are amused to discover that their costly acquisition is said to be haunted. But their smiles quickly vanish as tragedy follows misfortune: a murdered stagehand, a fatal accident, a missing girl.

Fearful tales of the Opera Ghost race through the corridors and dressing rooms of the theatre. And with good reason - for deep in the catacombs beneath the Opera House, something is stirring....

A full cast dramatisation, featuring Anna Massey (Madame Giry), Peter Guinness (The Phantom), Alexander Siddig (The Persian), James D'Arcy (Raoul), Helen Goldwyn (Christine), Tony Millan (Moncharmin), Richard Earl (Richard), Nick Brimble (Philippe/Gaston), Nick Wilton (Lachenel/Mifroid), Geraldine Newman (Madame Valérius), Samantha Hughes (La Carlotta), Nicola Weeks (Meg/Adèle), and singers Linda Richardson (Christine/La Carlotta), Matthew Hargreaves (The Phantom). Director: Barnaby Edwards. Sound design: Matthew Cochrane. Music: Tim Sutton (violin played by Ruth Rogers).

Most Novel Accurate Phantom Adaptation Ever

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would wholeheartedly recommend this audio drama to anyone who is remotely interested in Phantom of the Opera or horror in general. This version of the classic story, "The Phantom of the Opera" is a full cast audio drama made by Big Finish productions. Meaning, it is not simply an audio book but features a full cast similarly to a radio play. This version is simply the most accurate adaptation of Gaston Leroux's novel ever. And trust me, I own 22 other versions. It's worth noting... this is based off the original novel. Thus, it is less romantic than the Andrew Lloyd Webber version most people are familiar with. That being said, it is still a masterpiece.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Phantom of the Opera (Dramatized)?

Without spoiling it for those who have not heard the original tale, this audio drama version features the final, heart wrenching monologue of Erik (the Phantom) from the novel which has very very rarely been adapted and has never been on screen I do not believe.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

The entire cast was perfectly suited, but the Phantom in particular I thought was absolutely perfect, one of my favorite actors in the role. His voice sounds creepy and yet elegant, as Erik should.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Before Andrew Lloyd Webber... There was a darker sort of Phantom in the Paris Opera House...

Absolutely wonderful and faithful adaptation of the original novel. Perhaps the best one of the book I have experienced. I only wish it had been longer!

Delightful

High quality audio drama. A well dramatized story and marvelous work of the actors, plus a good soundrack, including opera singing. I enjoyed it

Nice adaption of an old favorite

Excellent vocal performances make up for the bits of story left out. This adaption will make you long for live-action movie based on the Leroux.
