Publisher's summary

Eric, the Phantom of the Opera, was so disgustingly ugly that, “his mother would never let him kiss her, she would throw his mask at him and run away”.

Eric possessed many truly brilliant and extraordinary abilities, including musical genuis. Being outcast from society for his ugliness, Eric was forced to wander from one country to another. When in France, he worked at fairs demonstrating tricks and ventriloquism. Later he became a bricklayer and was engaged in building the Paris Opera House.

Upon completion of the construction, Eric decided to hide from the world in the cellars of the Opera and turned this great building into his own empire.

Gaston Leroux’s classic story of the love between the Phantom of the Opera, the beautiful young singer he loves, and her beloved viscount continues to excite the imaginations of readers all over the world.

Incomplete audio

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This audio book had about a page missing at the end of the chapter on the roof of the opera, and several pages missing at the end of the torture chamber chapter.

Unlike any play I've ever seen

I've seen Phantom of the Opera on the stage in Chicago and London. Neither of them come close to the ture story their based on. In all the theaters we see a beautiy and the beast story line which is not the true story. This book doesn't even follow any movie I've seen either. Here we meet 'OG' and learn how he came to be the 'OG'. We also learn how he came to reveal himself to Christine and how she's been in-love with another guy the whole time. We see here how 'OG' tries to get Christine to love him and all the steps he took to keep people from his world. The end of the book does confuse a little. I would recommend it to all people who have see the play or movies.
