Publisher's Summary

Ponyboy can count on his brothers. And on his friends. But not on much else besides trouble with the Socs, a vicious gang of rich kids whose idea of a good time is beating up "greasers" like Ponyboy. At least he knows what to expect, until the night someone takes things too far.

"Great for a wide variety of ages"

My fourteen year old son kept urging me to get this book after reading it in school. I initially got it simply to support and encourage his reading habit. The book grabbed me from the beginning and never bogged down. I recommend it to ALL teenagers and see no reason why any adult wouldn't like it as well. Great story, well narrated.

    "The Outsiders"

I remember reading this book in school, many years ago - so when my son brought it home to read as english 8 homework, I decidied to download it one evening so that we could discuss it together after he finished reading it. It's a great story for many reasons - the class differences and similarities are very well detailed. The main character is very captivating in the book and is easy to lissen to as an audible book. It's hard to stop listening - luckily it's not a long book.

    "Great "classic" story"

What a great story. Stories should be told and passed down through generations. This is one of those that every human in any country in any language can relate to. Hinton tells this story very well. It's about growing up and dealing with some of the problems we all had.
This book should be on the "must read" list for every young person in our country.

    "Chapters DO NOT match."

Great audio book. However, I had the same problem as the previous reviewer. The chapters DO NOT MATCH. Chapter 4 begins half way through chapter three etc...Not good if you use in classroom where you have to select a specific chapter.

    "Jim Fyfe's Amazing Voices"

I'm an 8th grade Language Arts teacher and I usually read the narration for books or stories to my classes. I feel I can do a better job than the taped narrations I have access to. In this case, I heard a sample of Mr. Fyfe's narration for 'The Outsiders' and I was sold. He has an amazing capacity to capture numerous different voices and I'm hoping to find another book that he has narrated and that I can use for my 8th graders.-Andrew Kornfeld

    "The Outsiders"

This audio book does not follow the print book! I bought this to play for my 7th grade literature class, but the chapters listed on my ipod did not match what the narrator was reading! I would select chapter 7, and when the narrator read it said "Chapter 9" !

    Story
"a classic of teens for no matter how times change"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to most any one as no matter who you are as we all feel like some of these characters. Each of use has some of pony boy in us, maybe not now but it reminds us of who we were when we were young and still had some innocence, when we still were gold (reference to the poem in the book). I first red this book in school back in high school, it was a good story but as I grew older this meant so much more as I started to see the world more clearly.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Outsiders?

There are some many to me, I think of this book and the hole story plays out in my mind. Many things are very memorable moments, the movie and how they social interaction is between the soc girls and the greaser boys, it shows the dynamic, the fight in the night in the park that send Pony boy and Johnny off on their journey, or the fire in the church. This is a book of amazing big moments for these classic and memorable characters.

To me when I think of this book I think of two main characters,
Pony boy in his book smart ways being the one who tells the store, It tells me who he is and we all see some of our self in him.
However most of all I think of Johnny Cade (johnnycake) He is a main character and does so much for the book but when I imagine those sad, scared, beaten brown eyes. The words that he is like a puppy that has been kicked one to many times from the book paint in my mind how Johnny is his manner and I see those eyes. That is what makes so much of the character for me as being beaten and feeling unloved when he loves such a raw heightened love and emotion. It colors every word he says and does not say, he is the hero he wanted to be.

What about Jim Fyfe’s performance did you like?

The voice brought the book to life, it was a renewing to this great story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

High class or trash no matter who people say you are or where you fit.
