My fourteen year old son kept urging me to get this book after reading it in school. I initially got it simply to support and encourage his reading habit. The book grabbed me from the beginning and never bogged down. I recommend it to ALL teenagers and see no reason why any adult wouldn't like it as well. Great story, well narrated.
What a great story. Stories should be told and passed down through generations. This is one of those that every human in any country in any language can relate to. Hinton tells this story very well. It's about growing up and dealing with some of the problems we all had.
This book should be on the "must read" list for every young person in our country.
I remember reading this book in school, many years ago - so when my son brought it home to read as english 8 homework, I decidied to download it one evening so that we could discuss it together after he finished reading it. It's a great story for many reasons - the class differences and similarities are very well detailed. The main character is very captivating in the book and is easy to lissen to as an audible book. It's hard to stop listening - luckily it's not a long book.
I am a miracle worker. Doing what I can to choose love over fear.
The story is short which in my opinion blends every moment together. A perfect listen.
Johnny and Soda: Because of their kindness.
A painful beauty
Not heard about this? Turn it on. Please.
Great audio book. However, I had the same problem as the previous reviewer. The chapters DO NOT MATCH. Chapter 4 begins half way through chapter three etc...Not good if you use in classroom where you have to select a specific chapter.
I'm an 8th grade Language Arts teacher and I usually read the narration for books or stories to my classes. I feel I can do a better job than the taped narrations I have access to. In this case, I heard a sample of Mr. Fyfe's narration for 'The Outsiders' and I was sold. He has an amazing capacity to capture numerous different voices and I'm hoping to find another book that he has narrated and that I can use for my 8th graders.-Andrew Kornfeld

When Poneyboy and Johnny were rescuing the kids out of the church as it burned.
yes I couldn't put it down!
I am a Sign Language Specialist for a child in 8th Grade. I had never read this book but I am glad I spent the money and time to listen to it. My student isnt deaf but he is non verbal and has a hard time reading. I will be sharing this download with him and I am sure he will enjoy it.
This may be nostalgia talking, but I consider The Outsiders a true classic. I read this book in high school; now after 20 years I have listened to the audio book and still find it to be an amazing story. A few things, like the language, may seem a little dated, but overall it's a great book. Very few books are able to dynamically describe the troubles of teenagers, The Outsiders does this in a vivid thought provoking way. Although the book was obviously written with a teenage audience in mind I believe adults will find value in it as well. You can also check out the movie with its all star cast.

A great movie and a great audio book as well. Loved the story and I especially loved the narrator as well. Two thumbs up and highly recommended to all who is or once was a teenager!
