Publisher's summary

The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

Written in 1952, this hugely successful novella confirmed Hemingway's power and presence in the literary world and played a large part in his winning the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature.

Never give up

A wonderful story about man's inner drive not to give up even when life itself seems hopeless, and you are up against a great challenge.

Simple incredable story

Just a simple story written by a master and narrated superbly. Hemingway wastes no words in his beautiful writing. Any writer today should study Hemingway's beautifully efficient use of words. Many or today's best selling books would be much shorter and much better.

Prepare to cry

Then weep as best you can and pray for Hemingway. Raw flying fish for breakfast.

timeless story

I read this back in the 80's and it was consider a classic, but was relatable to society then. Listened to it this week again and the story still relates to the struggle of a fisherman and his journey, stays the same no matter the year.

Perfection

Hemingway, like Shakespeare had painted many observations of the struggles and victories of life. This read (or listen) should be on everybody's Bucket list.
