Publisher's summary

Rudyard Kipling was the first Englishman to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature (1907). In addition to writing children's stories such as The Jungle Books and the Just So Stories, he wrote a number of classic novels about the time of British Imperialism including Kim and this audiobook. This book was published in 1891 and is a story of a lonely child, Dick Helder, who grows up to become a war artist. Following the British army into battle, he experiences many difficulties and internal struggles while providing some outstanding descriptions of the desert and desert warfare.

Inappropriate reader

Why would you choose an American female to read Kipling, and one who doesn't know how to pronounce "Leicester Square" and "threepenny bit"? Kipling is the quintessential English Public School educated male, so it just seemed amazingly inappropriate and spoiled my enjoyment of of an interesting story.

A Haunting Novel

This is a somewhat haunting novel that features unexpected twists. Well written, well read. Characters are realistic and stick with you for quite a while.
