Publisher's summary

Ichabod Crane, a lanky, lean, superstitious school master, arrives to teach the children of Sleepy Hollow. As he vies for the attention of the lovely Katrina Van Tassel, his rival for her attention is the town rowdy, Brom Bones. Brom tries to scare Ichabod away with local superstitions and ghost tales. And soon enough, the ill-fated schoolmaster encounters a terrifying legend come to life: the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow.

Meticulously adapted to stay true to the mood and flavor of the book Washington Irving is most famous for, this Colonial Radio presentation won the Charles Ogle Award for the Best Fantasy Production of 2005.

Best performance

Just a great re-telling of our country's first ghost story. This is the first audio drama I ever bought, and it's still one of the best.

Great for all kids. My kids (10/11) and I, love this story. Don't have to worry about bad language.

Very Faithful Adaptation

Large portions of this adaptation are taken directly from Washington Irving's text. The first few pages and the ending are nearly unabridged readings. In-between, sentences are quoted verbatim as the structure follows closely the original story.

The dramatized portions include songs (similar to the Disney animated adaptation) and other whimsy as well as sound effects and music. The thrilling finale is read with suitably theatrical gusto and is completely unabridged from the original text.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is perhaps the ultimate Halloween story, and this rendition does it proud.

Fine job as always by Robbins and Company

Much like a watching or experiencing a play - Colonial Radio Players did a great job developing both mood and tone while you still can draw the setting in your mind, from a story read before in my youth and brought to life with different voices than the ones I’ve created before - short and great run through as I travel for work and easy listening for anyone wanting a quick escape from the daily grind - plus it’s October and use to be one of my Halloween favorites
Peace and stay safe everyone

The Headless Horseman

This how you tell a story with voice actors & not read by narrator

Return of the Classic!

Another quality performance by the Colonial Radio Players. Faithful to Washington Irving's original story, the first American fairy tale comes to life in such a way as to feel like the audio was stripped from an animated production. With original music and sound effects, this is a performance best listened to by the light of a single candle so as to add to the ambiance.
