I'm a technician that does a lot of driving for his job. I use the "windshield" time to listen to audiobooks.

Good performance. I listened to the book 2 weeks before the release of the movie. This book is a lot more fun when you're in the 4th grade vs. being 42. The movie does a good job of following the book.

If you could sum up The Hobbit in three words, what would they be?

    Interesting, enjoyable, great

What did you like best about this story?

When Bilbo was talking to the dragon

What does Rob Inglis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love being read to , Rob Inglis has a great voice and I can listen to a good book while crocheting or knitting. So I am getting to of my favorite things a one time. crafting and reading a book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

when the leader of the dwarfs died.

"read/listen to the book before you see the movie!"

I did read the Hobbit years ago--hearing it on audiobooks was great! I had forgotten much of it. We listened to it in the car on a 10 hr trip from MI to NC over Thanksgiving weekend. I was a little disappointed at first with the audio-reader's initial Gandolf voice inflection. Sounded weak and a bit befuddled to me. I did however notice that it evolved through out the reading of the book and took on a more "wizardly" persona as the story progressed.
If you see the movie after you listen to the book you will note the movie takes a lot of artistic liberties to tell the story on screen----knowing the real story helped me enjoy the movie. It was ok that it was not a literal interpretation of the book.

    "Great story a hard listen"

A great story but can be painfully slow at times. So much detail like full songs can wear on the listener after a while.I felt myself saying "get on with the story". That being said this is a must listen for anyone who knows of the stories of JRR Tolkin. Also consider how long ago this book was writen.

    "Great audio, narrative is fantastic"
If you could sum up The Hobbit in three words, what would they be?

    Great character voicing

What other book might you compare The Hobbit to and why?

I'm not a big reader so I can't really answer this.

What about Rob Inglis’s performance did you like?

His voices for different characters really sucks me into the story. He makes all of them come alive in my mind.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The Unexpected Journey, can't go wrong with Tolkien's own words.

    Any additional comments?

I was very happy to find the function that increases the narrator speed. Some of the pauses were quite long and I was feeling a bit anxious for him to continue.

    "Maybe it's just me..."

...I just didn't think the hobbit was the end all be all. I thought I would listen to this before the movie came out. What happened was - my mind wandered the whole time I was listening. It just didn't grab me and put me at the edge of my seat. However, I was able to figure out what I needed to pick up from the grocery store and make several to-do lists while I was supposed to be listening to the Hobbit.

    "Never Read Them Before"

I never read any of these books when I was a child. What was I thinking? I'm in my late 30's now and it's like I missed a big portion of my childhood of fantasizing of Hobbits. I plan to read the next three books to try to catch up. Great story and awesome singing from the narrator. Just wondering how many classics that I missed. I have no desire to watch the movie because it might ruin my imagination of the book.

"The Hobbit:Fantastic since I read it 30 years ago."
What made the experience of listening to The Hobbit the most enjoyable?

Listening to the book was a fun experience. The reader really brought The Hobbit to life.

What other book might you compare The Hobbit to and why?

Author Terry Brooks is the best comparison I can make.

Which character – as performed by Rob Inglis – was your favorite?

I loved all of the characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

They made the film. A tag line I would use is, experience Tolkien in another adventurous form the audible book.

    Any additional comments?

I enjoyed listening to The Hobbit that I'm going to buy the rest of the audible books from the trilogy.

"Another perfect listen by Rob Inglis"
Would you listen to The Hobbit again? Why?

I've just listened to The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings, and Rob Inglis' readings make me forget the Peter Jackson movies and remember my own imagined versions from reading Tolkien as a child. He performs the voices marvelously, and his singing is wonderful, rich and mellifluous. For yourself or a Tolkien fan, these are the perfect audiobooks. Buy them immediately! You won't regret it.
