That other readers would take lessons from Mr. Inglis.

    "Classic"
Where does The Hobbit rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Certainly in the top 10 and the series is one of the top 3. It's a great story and the narration is fabulous. So happy that it is finally on Audible as the CD's are about worn out.

Very well written story with a great level of character development and distinction from the reader. I enjoyed it from start to finish and would recommend it to anyone.

    Story
"Finally an unabridged version of the book"
What made the experience of listening to The Hobbit the most enjoyable?

It's nice to hear the story come alive in an audio edition.

What did you like best about this story?

There is enough going on to keep the story moving

    Which scene was your favorite?

The first exchange between Smaug the Dragon and Bilbo Baggins

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

After reading The Lord of the Rings I see the scenes with Gollum and Bilbo differently.

    Any additional comments?

Dramatized versions are great but there is nothing quite like the original story itself.

    "Didn't like the narration"
What did you like best about The Hobbit? What did you like least?

Of course, the story is a classic. However, the narration spoiled it for me. There were noticeable gaps in the dialogue. It didn't flow. Plus, the narrator kept switching accents and emphasis such that I couldn't tell which character he was trying to be at any given point.

Did Rob Inglis do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

No, I was confused a lot of the time. There were a lot of characters, but I kept thinking one of the dwarfs was speaking when it was supposed to be Bilbo.

I am a one time English major, a lifelong reader, gardener, culinary experimenter, and fiber arts artisan. A perfect day for me is spent working with my hands while listening to an absorbing book. I love history and horticulture.

    "revisiting an old friend"

It's been about 40 years since I read the Hobbit in high school. In preparation for seeing the movie, I thought I would listen to the book, and enjoyed doing so. It's not quite as exciting as I remember, but that, I think is the result of my more recent familiarity with the Lord of the Rings movies, and the Harry Potter books and films. For someone who loves the English language and folklore, it is not to be missed. Hearing the songs sung, which I probably just skipped over, and the descriptions of landscapes and histories of the folk who people this tale are evocative of British roots and half forgotten history.

"A classic comes to life by spoken word"
Where does The Hobbit rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In terms of fiction, near the top.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Too hard to say.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    Again, too hard to say.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Again -- just too hard to choose one.

    Any additional comments?

Listening to it in its entirety was a treat, just as spellbinding and hard to put down as the book.

    "Great story, great narration."

The story is very good, as most people are aware already. But this narrator it seems was born to tell it. Great voices, great narration, Inglis and Tolkien go together beautifully.
