"Read it before the movie comes out"

I had to admit I could only remember bits and pieces of the book having read it last over 30 years ago. Listening to the audiobook was just like having Tolkein reading a bedtime story to me every time I turned it on. Great narration (and not a bad singing voice) and the plucky story makes it timeless! I couldn't help but put the faces of the actors from the movie in as I imagined the tale unfold. I had forgotten just how delightful a tale The Hobbit is without the clutter of prose and mythology that bogs down Tolkein's other works.

    "Of course it was brilliant"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Hobbit to be better than the print version?

When it comes to actually getting someone to sing the song of the dwarfs and the elves, it is something that simply cant be done in your head when reading it.

What did you like best about this story?

A great journey, and a brilliant story.

What about Rob Inglis’s performance did you like?

Very steady, very rich timber in his voice. Perfect for dwarfs.

    "the best download this month"

I have read this book several times and listened to a BBC theatre performance but until now have not had such a great experience as this. The narrator brought to life all of the poetry and song contained in this epic story in such a way that I can't wait to download the rest of the Baggins story. Bilbo is such a stodgy character in the beginning but he grows and matures as the adventure continues. I truly enjoyed this book and was anxious toreview today

    "Near perfect performance"
What does Rob Inglis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Rob Inglis performs the novel in such a way that each character comes alive, true to their original form, at least in my mind. A great book made better by a great narrator.

    "Hello Old Friend"

Thirty years ago I read the Hobbit at the age of eight. I have read it countless times since then. I purchased this audiobook version on cassette tape about ten years ago. Of course tapes were torn up, then tape decks disappeared. When I joined Audible in 2007 I hoped that this series would come along soon. I downloaded these as soon as they were available on the site. Listening to them is like visiting an old and dear friend. I spent my childhood and teenage years deep in Middle Earth. I am so happy to be able to listen to them again.

The story is one that is so simple and linear, but the characters so complex and appealing that they can relate to so many different readers. It is a true classic.

I have been hearing a voice in my head as I've been reading this for 40+ years, and his is the voice.

"Glad to finally have it on audible"

I loaned my CD audiobook version out and never got it back. I'm so glad to finally have it on audible where I can always access it.

This Hobbit is one of my favorite stories and this has to be one of, if not the best audiobook out there. Rob Inglis is simply amazing! If you love fantasy, adventure, hobbits, elves, dwarves, or just a feel good book, this is a must have in your audiobook collection.
