Publisher's summary

One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, the genius who is resented because he creates purely for the delight of his own work and on no other terms; Gail Wynand, the newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire whose power was bought by sacrificing his ideals to the lowest common denominator of public taste; and Dominique Francon, the devastating beauty whose desperate search for meaning has been twisted, through despair, into a quest to destroy the single object of her desire: Howard Roarke. Dramatic, poetic, and demanding, The Fountainhead remains one of the towering books on the contemporary intellectual scene.

Critic reviews

"Ayn Rand is a writer of great power. She has a subtle and ingenious mind and the capacity of writing brilliantly, beautifully, bitterly." ( New York Times Book Review)

Holds up 80 years later.

This story is a universal struggle that mankind always confronts no matter the era or circumstances. I have never read a book with such a thorough understanding of each character’s motivations. As intellectual as it is, the story still has the fun of twists and humor. It isn’t preachy about who’s “good” and who’s “bad”. The story makes you think about the way people get to their judgements. It’s a beautiful celebration of individualism. I have always loved architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright. I feel like this book was written just for me. It is also read perfectly. You can tell which of the many characters in the book is speaking just by the slight changes in the voicing.

My favorite book!!

I read this book in my twenties, thirties and now in my sixties, it get better every time. It inspires me to be the man I want to be not the man society accepts as perfect. Be true to yourself not others. This reading was better than reading it myself. Loved it.

Lotta Book, Captivating Performance

Excellent audiobook. You'll be in it for the long haul and it's worth it. Great performance - commanding voice and stark delivery works perfectly for the setting.

A book you must read.

A good book is one you enjoy reading. An excellent book is one you can read again and love again. If you have read Atlas Shrugged, and liked it, you will like this one too.

Timeless Epic

Follow along with the iconic characters made real through Mrs. Rand penmanship. Truly, a listen which kept me going and going till it suddenly was done.
